Hello, my friend is going to be a senior this year. She plans on just going to a community college, but I don't think she should.

She hasn't taken any standardized tests yet and had a rough year with her family. She barely passed her classes first semester. However, she did make a huge improvement and is now in honors.

A hook may be she's hispanic.

What college would accept her with a great essay but probably bad scores and GPA? Also, she is a first generation college student with no father, financial aid required. She is a competitive equestrian and IMO is good enough to get recruited....

I really want to help her out. Thank you in advance

If you think that she could be recruited for equestrian, have her take a look at D1 and D2 schools that have varsity equestrian programs. Here’s the link [Varsity Equestrian - The Official Site of NCAA Varsity Equestrian](http://www.varsityequestrian.com/universities.html)

I don’t know where she lives, but I would have her look at Seton Hill (small Catholic school 35 miles from Pittsburgh). It has an equestrian team and it’s SAT optional, in case her scores are bad. I don’t know how much aid she would be given, but she could at try. Another school to look at is Sacred Heart–a Catholic school located in Connecticut-with a varsity team.

If she does have bad scores AND bad grades, then a CC may be the best option. She can prove her ability to focus at the college level while not spending too much. Even with being first gen it will be tough to get beyond the minimum financial aid without a better academic track record.
