Trying to transfer to Georgia Tech as a vetran

Hello guys, this is my situation.

I recently applied to Georgia Tech as a Mechanical Engineering major for Spring semester of 2019. I am a veteran who recently ETS (honorable discharge) from the Army and currently in school at the University of Texas at El Paso. Before I joined the Army, my major was Political Science. However, after being in the military and worked with other engineers from numerous defense contractors, which changed the direction of my college major.

So, here is all my GPA for four different colleges.

Georgia State University of Perimeter College (Political Science major) = 3.12 GPA
American Military University (Political Science major) = 3.79
El Paso Community College (Mechanical Engineering) = 4.0
The University of Texas at El Paso (Mechanical Engineering) = 4.0

Before I joined the Army, I went to the Georgia State University of Perimeter College. When I was in the Army, I took classes at the American Military University. After all the experience from the Army really change my attitude and personality. I learned how to manage time really well, and it really helps me in classes. As of right now, I have 75 credits and I am taking 14 more credits this semester. I already took all the requirements for Georgia Tech. I really want to go back to Georgia and attend Georgia Tech as a Mechanical Engineering student. I heard if you are a veteran, you have more chance to get accepted into college. Is that true? And what is my chance? Thank you guys!

Yes…your odds are much much better of getting in…the GSU grades won’t matter if they were before service. Right now you look like a 4.0 student with an amazing story being in the military. Do you only want to go to GT? The top private schools often PAY veterans to attend via financial aid packages. I know several that were given $10k/yr on top of all tuition and room and board being covered at engineering focused schools like Cornell, Stanford, and MIT. Look up Service 2 School on google and sign up. They’ll take care of you.

Make sure your application statement tells this story and points out that your Georgia State GPA was before the military. If you haven’t already, you might want to contact the Veterans Resource center at GT.

By the way, being a veteran and having experience working with military engineers and contractors is going to be a huge selling point when you look for a job after graduating. (Speaking only from my experience working at companies who employ mechanical engineers.)
