Is there anyone familiar with the undergraduate biology program (specifically molecular bio and biochem) at Tufts University? How strong is it? How does it compare to other undergraduate bio programs?
bump!
Tufts is known for strong Bio and there are many research opportunities on campus and to some extent at the medical school and hospital. The strong med school, graduate nutrition school, and vet school make Tufts undergrad programs stronger.
As noted it has a strong Bio program. My son is currently in the program and did a work study last year in one of the research labs. He wasn’t fully qualified for the position but they took him on and it led to a summer position in a lab, and is doing research for credit this year. His plan is MD/PhD program and meeting the post docs doing lab work will hopefully help him in the future.
Tufts is great for bio- but I will say that biochem is a 16 course major (assuming no AP credit) versus most other majors on campus being between 10-12 classes. This coupled with the distribution requirements means you would have less flexibility than most other Tufts students, especially when it comes to doing a double major or minor. Just something I would think about.
