That's painful! It's tough to turn down a full tuition scholarship...but it's life. USC is still a decent school, so it's not like you're falling too many levels "below" what you'd find here. Their marketing strategy with full/half/quarter tuition scholarships is a very powerful and effective way of increasing their selectivity and general perception. No longer is it a University of Second Choice :) Though the irony in your situation is that it still is!

Anyways, I'd talk to your family about it. If you have the resources to get the experience you want, then by all means, take it. But if you feel that financially it's not a sound investment, then I'd go to USC. Money is an important thing that's not to be lost sight of.

I've heard of people appealing their financial aid packages based on circumstances that may not have been clear through FAFSA or CSS. I think you should call the office, and possibly have your parents' accountant send Tufts a letter.

Generally though, because they're need-based, they're pretty hardassed about giving more money because people can try and cheat the system. Yesterday a friend's mom was telling me that some people pay accountants (or economics specialists) about $900 to hide their property and make them seem less wealthy. This same mom also said that since my friend's dad hasn't sent in any of his information (and won't because he's not in her life, which a judge attested to) to Tufts, they won't give my friend any more money. They assume he's going to contribute money. They also assumed that her mom can afford to send almost half of her salary to Tufts, which just isn't true.

I think they should go back to merit-based scholarships as well.

blueeyed: About that, you can easily get around that, my father pays no child support and we are not in contact with him, all Tufts needed was a letter from a 3rd party (pastor, etc.), my mom, and child services stating that no funds have been received and there has been no contact, it's not that hard, people just have to take initiative to get things...

i have a question, my parents EFC was 23,377 ... and i didnt apply for financial aid bc all my friends were like nooooyou wont get anything...

but now i'm kindof regretting not applying and really wondering if maybe they'd give me something?

do you guys think tufts wouldve given me money? should i apply for like, the next semester or call them and ask if i can still apply (bc nyu allows you to do that)

i just want peace of mind that i didnt mess up horribly...

My friend did send several letters in to Tufts and they still want information from the father. A family court judge sent a letter to Tufts stating his absence in her life, and they basically said "it doesn't matter"

I got my financial aid packages from CMU and Rice today and both are expecting me to pay my EFC +- a thousand maybe. Should I mail a copy to tufts of this? As another institution with the same variabls given, gave me this but Tufts is asking for $38,000 while rice is asking for $13,000...
Tell em?

Help!!!, Can I ask for more financial aid?? I am an international and have received 32000$ . I said I could pay 20,000 $ but dollar rates have gone up in my country and so the 20,000 have become terribly expensive! My dad is also sceptical wether he can continue paying for the next four years due to some familial financial problems (which i don't really wanna disclose) PLEASE< tell me that they can provide me more fin aid! And please tell me that i can re-aply for further fin aid next yr? Do they give fin aid, based on academic performance?

It's hard because internationals already are supposed to have very little financial aid. I would talk to them about what your options are. Is it possible to take out loans?

i am international student too. And i am in a similar position as you are. THerefore, I want to contact you. What is your email? And what happened to ur Aid?
