Tufts "fit"

As a highly selective institution, Tufts is very adamant about the holistic admission, and therefore the “fit” of a student with the Tufts community.

Currently, I’ve gotten the feel that Tufts is a place for kind, welcoming, smart (verging on nerdy) students that enjoy learning for the passion, rather than just to learn. Also, not as much emphasis put on it being a rat race environment (as opposed to other highly selective institutions).

Could any parents/students/deans affirm, deny, or add to the qualities that make an applicant a good “fit” for Tufts?

Thanks!

Parent of two grads. I once heard the previous dean of admissions describe the admission goal as increasing the number of students who stay to chat with the professor on the topic of the day after class ended. My sense of Tufts students: genuine intellectual curiosity, passionate about something (academics, sports, arts, community service, politics, etc.), interested in global citizenry, accepting of different points of view and life choices. Most students are high energy and involved with multiple often disparate activities, eg. engineers who sing a cappella, football players who tutor high school students, double majors in Biology and Spanish
