Tufts, Lafayette, or Bucknell?

I am very torn between these three schools. Which should I choose and why? Thanks.

My D visited–and liked–all three schools. She is at Tufts now is has no regrets that she applied ED. Bucknell, whose science programs impressed her, was simply too remote and insular-seeming—and too much like her high school as far as the student make-up is concerned—for her to consider. She was impressed with Lafayette’s undergraduate engineering program, as well as its attractive campus, but she was concerned she might not be challenged academically to the extent she would be at Tufts.

Ultimately, it was the whole package at Tufts—academic rigor, size, proximity to bustling Davis and Harvard Squares and downtown Boston, the diverse, uber-friendly and somewhat more “progressive” student body, and, to a lesser extent, prestige—that sold her.

Have you visited the schools a second (or even a first) time? Sat in on classes? Shadowed a student or spent a night? Spoken with professors in your field of interest? Prioritized your criteria–academics, size, location, cost?

dxgoogs: I like the way you posted the question on all 3 sites in a logical order…regardless of your choice, you’ll be just fine. I like all three, but statistically Tufts is the most competitive.

It all comes down to what you want from a school…a very strong school spirit in a slightly isolated setting; a smallish school with a small city feel with semi-remote access to NY and Philly; a school on the edge of a major city? Not knowing where you live, then it’s a question of how far from home do you want to be?

Where would your friends fit in? That’s where you want to be.

Seriously? Lafayette isn’t even in the conversation.
Bucknell is a very good school, but it’s in the middle of nowhere and simply does not have Tufts’ cachet.

Tufts it the best school out of the 3…
