Tufts & Museum School Joint Degree

Hello!

I was curious - is it possible to apply to the Tufts University AND Museum School in Boston JOINT degree (Tufts degree + art degree from Museum School) and GET IN, but then drop out of the Museum School to simply be a full-time Tufts student and major in something else entirely?

lol, I know - kind of tricky, but yeah...

I think it's easier to just get into Tufts, and if you are accepted to a joint-degree program, you can def get into Tufts since it's very selective. If you start taking Museum School classes, you will probably lose some of those credits and have to spend longer in undergrad. If you've applied one way and changed your mind, you can probably call the school and have your app type changed.

Both schools must accept you so it really doesn't matter. If the museum school rejects you then you become a Tufts student. If Tufts rejects you but the museum school accepts you, then tough luck.

Once you're already into the program you're free to do whatever you wish.

Yeah, but I think it'll be easier for me to get into Tufts (as of now, my GPA is .5 below the average accepted from my school, a 4.15ish w...) if I got Museum School to bat for me... but the thing is, I REALLY want to get into Tufts, while I'm not so keen on spending another year in college and getting an art degree (which I have no interest in whatsoever) but I've won several nationwide art awards + I'll be submitting a portfolio...

And plus, many people (GC, teachers) have told me I'd stand a way better chance as an "art applicant" from my school, since it's more academic/sport focused and we don't have many art applicants.

So, what you're saying is it IS very possible (is it done?) - but one acception doesn't really effect the other?

if you have "no interest in art whatsoever," then why in the world would you apply to museum school in the first place? they're not going to interfere in the tufts application process just for you, even if you were actually dedicated to the entire purpose of their school.
in response to your original question, if you are accepted into a joint program you do not have to do the joint program (and can pick just one of the schools). but don't waste your time in applying to museum school if you have no intention of actually going; it won't help you for tufts.
now, your art awards might help you.

Oh, I see lol! Thanks, you guys have been very helpful :)

I do love drawing/art for myself, but not in majoring in it!

And I wasn't sure if art awards were going to help me at Tufts, because academic awards are more prized nowadays, lol... (at least, at our school)

Thanks again ;)

I agree with scarfmadness, the art awards might help you get in to Tufts.

From what I know of the Museum School, it's an amazing program but its hard to manage a dual degree if you don't really want it. I know several people who are Museum School students and they spend a lot more time on the Museum campus and in Boston rather than on the Medford campus. They do offer classes open to Tufts students that are supposedly amazing though, so I would take advantage of those!
