any thoughts, decision time fast approaching.......thx

But aren't Tufts and Georgetown fairly similar in prestige? I think I would fit in better at tufts and it suits what I want to major in and what I want to do on campus

Hard to stand out when you got Harvard, MIT one city away, BC (very very popular school), BU (well known internationally), and etc...

I'm talking on an academic level. I don't care if BC is popular and BU is "well known internationally"... Most people who have to make a decision between tufts BC and BU would probably choose tufts....

You clearly like Tufts so much better. Prestige - I frankly never have understood why it should play a role. If you think you'll be happy at Tufts then go there. You'll enjoy your time and do well there.

For applying to dental/medical schools, would going to tufts be better than georgetown?

In all honesty, I think your really splitting hairs between Tufts and Georgetown for pre-med/dent. Your going to have just as good of chance at getting into a great med/dent school from both, provided you keep your grades up. Go to the one that you feel socially fits the best, Boston and DC are two of the best college cities in the country (probably the two best on the east coast IMO) however they are fairly different in terms of overall atmosphere.

eek.. as prestigious as G'town and JHU? .. I don't think so

Well, the question of prestige is hard to answer, as others have noted. But in terms of selectivity, Tufts, Georgetown, and JHU are at almost the same point on the curve.

Prestige: Webster -"The power to impress or influence". Whom do you want to impress or influence? My apoligies to people in Iowa but my guess is that 90% have never heard of Tufts and would be more impressed by someone graduating from Grinnell, Iowa or Iowa State than Tufts. People who graduated from Harvard will not be impressed. More people in Iowa would probably be impressed by Georgetown but only because of its men's basketball team. Ask the bottom half of your HS class who may not be going to college whether they would be impressed by Georgetown or Tufts and whatever answer they give is wrong.

The people you want to impress are whoever you interview with for your first job. If you get a great opportunity in California, Tufts will be better than Georgetown if the interviewer is originally from New England. If it's in Atlanta by someone who graduated from Emory neither of those schools will impress that individual.

I personally am impressed with what people do after they leave school than with what specific school they went to. Some people seem to think that the school you go to somehow defines you. It is only 4 years of your life. Some of the biggest jerks I have met went to the alleged top schools and some of the people I have been most impressed with in life have been state university graduates.

^^^I concur. Especially, when I see some of the peope who were rejected at top schools this year, I have nothing but respect for the schools lucky enough to wind up with them.

but that shouldn't be the reason why I would want to go to G'town and JHU
