Tufts student housing

Is there enough housing on TUft campus for a student to live on campus all 4 yrs? Even if there is, how much is 4 yr campus living done?

I do not know if there s enough housing but many kids move off campus after sophomore year. In the Spring of freshman year, each student is given a lottery number that stays with him or her until graduation. The higher the number, the more likely you are to get your first choice of housing. If your number is high, you try to get into a suite with others whose numbers are better. This year, my sophomore (who has a high number) got into a nice site (newly renovated) because his suitemates had good numbers.

thanks. it looks like from the website there are 2 dorms that are Fr only (tilton and Houston) and a couple others were mentioned as ones that had FR,too - Haskell and Hill. Anyone know about any of these for a freshman girl in CAS? How are the dorms , pluses , minuses?
proximity to classes?

Do any of these have a bias towards certain students in certain study areas or are all of them mixed up?

are any of these more party oriented? any of these more substance free oriented?

In fact, now that I am asking, are there any dorms that are substance free?

There is a healthy living dorm/floor that is substance free. Frosh state a housing preference for all frosh or mixed. Most, but not all, get their choice. Students are assigned randomly dorms, although there is a room are matching survey. Dorms for frosh are mostly doubles, pretty standard for college. Both my DDs made long standing friendships from their frosh halls. The few who want housing all four years seem to be able to get it. Most prefer to move off campus by Senior year, and many for Junior year as well. There are lots of great student apartments in multi-family houses within walking distance of campus. My D1 lives in an off-campus apartment that is closer to her classes than any dorm would be. Nobody seems to be overly concerned about safety beyond the normal urban precautions of staying aware of your surroundings.

thanks, 1012mom. Do you know what the healthy living dorm is?

Freshman healthy living is generally Hill Hall, which is a great dorm with big rooms. My D lived in healthy living there freshman year. She has a single this year in Carmichael, but will live in upperclassmen healthy living next fall, which is in Lewis, then she’s going to Paris in the spring. So staying on campus all 4 years appears pretty doable, and since we live 3,000 miles away- I prefer it. I highly recommend healthy living and if you request it, it is easy to get. She made amazing friends there who like to do lots of fun things together that does not involve partying.
