^That’s the million dollar question (almost literally!) :)

I’ll be visiting Tufts and BU again next week. We’ll see from there! But I definitely know that these are all fantastic schools and that I really can’t go wrong… but it’s still quite stressful.

BU simply is not worth it. Both schools are similar and has advantages for particular majors. The coop factor is absolutely huge. You will most likely be doing coops international and domestic for 6 months. In the end you will come out as a more polished student especially with interviews and work experience. Tufts a is a great program and I would recommend it over Northeastern. However don’t get to caught up with prestige or rankings its all subjective. You will have plenty of resources at all schools so its up to you to take advantage.

I’m basically in the exact same position. I’m choosing between Northeastern (honors) and Tufts as well, although I want to be a communication major. The only thing is, Northeastern has a communication studies major and tufts only has a minor. If I went to Tufts I’d probably major in IR like you and minor in communication.
I’m the same as you in terms of aid, too. If I went to Tufts I’d probably live at home at least my first year to offset the cost, which I don’t really mind. I mean, I live about 6 miles away, so why would I pay 11,000 extra a year to live in a smaller room when cost is such a huge issue these days?

if that takes care of the big cost difference (Tufts would then only cost about $4000 extra each year which I know is still substantial but a relatively small difference when considering $50,000 annual college cost), my big problem is academics: I know that Tufts is a better school and everything, but will my career options be limited because of the major/minor thing? are the internship opportunities in media in existence at tufts to the extent that they are at northeastern? my parents think that northeastern is so well-connected after going to their admitted students day and seeing all the global opportunities.

Good luck, abha_g! There is no possible way I’d live at home (over 20 miles away and I really can’t stand spending another year in the town I’m in). And now my mom is getting very extremely confused with all the fin aid stuff and said that it is absolutely impossible for us to pay for Tufts, because she read something in the packet that says I’m not allowed to get any loans from anywhere else besides the $3,000 one that Tufts gave me?? I’m hoping she read that wrong. I’m just anxiously awaiting the Open House tomorrow so I can show her why I love Tufts so much!

Unfortunately, my mom just had 2 very unpleasant phone calls with the fin aid dept. @ Tufts She’s getting very frustrated with the whole process, especially since she has to keep sending in my parents’ retirement info… she doesn’t understand what their supposed to do once they retire if they’re expected to put that $$ towards college.

She is also wondering if she should already be applying for loans, even though I haven’t decided which school I’m going to yet… we are very clueless about this whole process!
