tuition update

The state adopted a budget last week in the final hours. It wasn't as bad as it could be for higher education. Originally one party proposed a 4% cut in funding. It was essentially flatlined for this fiscal year by using federal stimulus funds.

Here is what the IDS is reporting today: idsnews.com | Indiana Daily Student |

I know many of you are OOS. I've looked in a few places to find that proposed rate. Can't find it yet.

Here are the proposed increases. Not bad at all for Bloomington campus OOS compared to past years. Between 5.6-5.9 percent depending on program. Of course, with the economy so bad, any increases will be felt.

Business and Music students–the best programs–are getting biggest increases for in-state students at Bloomington.

OSS at IUPUI and some other campuses got clobbered. I guess IU felt like Bloomington OOS couldn’t take anymore huge increases like they have seen recently. Kelley OOS IUPUI students increase almost eleven per cent each of next two years.

Thanks, bthomp1. Looks like in-state engineering (19.2%) and law (graduate) (24.5%) students also got clobbered.

I can handle 5.9% OOS at Kelley–a great relief after the past two years of 9%+.

Just out of curiousity Calcruzer–how does the increase compare to CA increases or are they still unknown at this time?

I noticed the clobbering of the law students and Kelley instate grad students. Ouch.

California is still debating their budget–even though the law requires they had to be finished by June 30th (7 days ago).

The state controller has said that he will start paying the state’s bills with IOU’s starting Wednesday if a budget isn’t completed–and all the school districts (both K-12 and college) are still waiting to see how much money they will receive–and therefore waiting to approve their own budgets and set their tuition rates.
