I am interested in pursuing engineering at Tulane, but it doesn’t rank very well. Does anyone have any insight into this? If anyone knows the advantages or disadvantages of going to Tulane for engineering, please let me know. I’m particularly interested in hearing from any prospective or current students and alumni.
Are you interested in either Chemical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering? Because Tulane does not have Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering majors. Just thought that might save time if you did not know that. @GraphIt
@fallenchemist I didn’t start this thread, but I wanted to know about Tulane’s ChemE program. Do you have any idea how good it is? I won’t go to grad school, so I’d have to start a career right from undergrad. I have concerns about whether employers recruit engineers from Tulane and whether their degrees are considered valuable. I’m trying to decide between Tulane and the University of Alabama. I would greatly appreciate any guidance or info if you can provide any!
Everything I know about Tulane’s program is that it is very solid and comprehensive, and has a good track record for employment after graduation. Although sometimes the jobs are not directly into chem engineering. One graduate I know of worked for a few years in NOLA in a job that I think was pretty directly related to his ChemE degree, but is now in the SF area working for Google (and at a pretty fancy salary and benefits from what I gather). I am not quite sure about what he does, but it sounds more like environmental engineering than ChemE. Perhaps those are closely related enough. I am a chemist, not an engineer. Never really got into the specifics with his mother, who I have remained in contact.
But rather than anecdotes, I would think Tulane’s department would have good records on the employment results for those that do not choose to go on to grad school. Don’t be hesitant in asking for it. If you find out anything, let us know.
I cannot comment on Alabama’s program at all, as I have no specific knowledge of it.
