Tulane v Michigan

Hey guys,

I promise this is the last time ill talk about this.

So im down to my last two options and I am going to list some pros and cons. First off, I want to study Business specifically Management and Marketing. At Tulane, I was accepted into Marketing and can double major in both if id like. At mich, I am an undecided LSA Major so would likely have to major in Econ.

Tulane :

Pros- nice weather, good scholarship, small classes, my sister is a senior there and loves it, fun
Cons- less school spirit, not sure if id like the south (from California) , not as prestigious as mich

Michigan:

Pros- very spirited, great alumni, very academic while also having fun, experience something completely new, prestigious

Cons- freezing, very expensive, not in business (unless I can transfer in), huge so big classes/not as personalized

Help! It seems that the obvious answer is Tulane, but is Michigan THAT good of a school where I shouldn’t miss my opportunity?

I would probably need to take out a student loan for michigan.

Please let me know your thoughts.
Thanks!

Tulane would be my choice, it’s cheaper and is also a well respected school and since your sibling goes there you know exactly what to expect.

First off you /your parents have to be able to afford the school. Once your off the meal plans and get your own apartment with people you can actually save money. Many classes at Michigan have 20-30 students in them. Some are larger but not all.

You can meet with your professors just about anytime. It’s a big school with a small school feel. Central campus where your classes will be just isn’t that large.

Go where you can afford it.

If your not sure if Michigan can accomplish your goals start talking to an advisor. I bet you can get there without Ross

Please understand that you do not need to major in management or marketing to be a manager or a marketer. A very small percentage of people who do those things for a living actually majored in those subjects.

Now that you have it down to two colleges, you need to look at the EXACT courses you’d take. Make a spreadsheet. Carefully examine ALL the requirements for distributions and for majors. List the courses you’d take each year. After you have it all in front of you, it will be obvious to you.

Tulane for sure…
Why are you even thinking about Michigan? If you want to study business, remember that you are a business yourself. Would a business recklessly spend more money on a school with equal prestige for no reason at all? No.

Michigan is more prestigious than Tulane, particularly in business.

Where did you decide to go? My DD is in a similar predicament, but leaning towards Tulane. Eager to know what choice you made and how you feel about it now.
