TU's Reputation

I know that TU has a great reputation in Oklahoma; I've talked to a few people I know in Oklahoma, and all say that TU is the best University there. However, I've told several people from where I live (Louisiana) that I'm interested in attending TU, and none of them have even heard of it. And for the record, a few were people in business related fields, which is what I'm interested in.

So, I basically want to know how well known TU is outside of Oklahoma? I'm looking more towards a career in the Northeast, so anyone who is from that area, I would especially appreciate your input!

Thanks! :)

I live in OK, so I can’t say what the reputation is outside of OK. Within the state, TU is considered to be an excellent college. My son is there now and has many friends from out of state who chose TU over bigger name schools closer to home. I have read that the Collins School of Business at TU is highly regarded. Bloomberg recently named it as #31 among private business colleges. I think it was 55 overall.

For starters, I’ve realized that when you use the initials, everyone thinks you’re going to school in Texas, lol.

Among professional fields it seems to be well-respected, especially among petroleum companies. They also have a highly-ranked law school.

Since it is a small school that doesn’t have a headlining sports team, it isn’t as well-known as other schools, but it is nonetheless a great school.

Yes. I used to work in HR for a large petroleum company and we recruited heavily at TU, and not just for engineering positions.

Soonermom 95, which petroleum engineering company was this? It would be really helpful if you could let us know. From what I am hearing from the Petroleum Engineers in my dad’s office is that Petroleum Engineering companies do come but big ones like Exxon or Chevron don’t hire extensively at Tulsa like they do at UT Austin, Texas A and M or LSU.
