I hurt my ankle about two weeks ago playing capture the flag and ripped a ligament. And it was getting very close to where I would be able to run on it, except yesterday I was swimming in the ocean and when I tried to dive under a monster wave that came out of nowhere It crashed directly on my ankle, hurting it again. I have 10 days left before I-Day, I can walk without crutches on it and it is healing relatively quickly. But what will happen if it does not heal in time? Will I be kicked out? Will I have to reapply for next year? What would (or should) I do in my year off. Im crushed right now. 6 years of waiting, my dream finally came true and now its being taken away by forces outside my control.

I believe that, if you're not medically qualified on I-Day, you would be turned back a year. If I'm correct, you would have to reapply to USNA and for a nom but, assuming nothing changed for the negative, USNA would pretty much automatically reappoint you.

If you do end up sitting out a year, you should enroll in college and take courses as similar as possible to those you'd take as a plebe (chemistry, calculus, English, history). And do your best to participate in some form of competitive sports -- maybe a community league.

I truly hope you heal completely. If you've not seen an MD, I would do so. 10 days isn't much time but there may be some rehab that will help out.

Also, you need to stay away from ANY and ALL activities that can cause further injury. Anyone out there who is in the class of 2012, at this point you should not engage in any activities that are likely to cause you injury. Accidents do happen but avoiding "dangerous" situations helps minimize the chances.

Run to your MD - orthopedic doc if you can- and get that ankle checked out immediately. They will know best the extent of your injury, and how best to get you back in shape. In the meantime, get your weight off it and keep it off.

I would further suggest getting yourself a good book and curling up with it for the next 2 weeks- and if you absolutely must go swimming, stick to a pool!!!

theres plebes from day 1 of PEP who are injured and will remain so. my roommate didn't even go to PEP the first morning b/c of hip issues...and she was on chit the entire summer...

id only think they'd turn you away if it was something really serious like a torn acl or something along those lines--

My friend from my school who was recruited for football last year tore his ACL, and they sent him to a Foundation school for a year to recoop, so now he is going to be 2012 with me.
