Twice rejected. Is it worth applying again?

Hello everyone,

I have always wanted to attend Binghamton. The first time I applied to Bing as a transfer was in my 3rd semester at community college (54 credits completed, 3.69 GPA) for fall 2009 semester and I was rejected!!! The only other school that I applied to and got in was Baruch(4 yrs school) so I had no options but to attend Baruch in fall 2009. While at CUNY Baruch College, I applied the second time to Bing SOM for spring 2010 semester (at that time I had 70 credits completed, 3.66 GPA, and already earned my A.A. degree) and again I was rejected!!! I hated commuting to Baruch so I transferred to Stony Brook University-College of Business for Spring 2010 but everyone seems to be a pre-med or science major here and I just can't find a balance. At Baruch it was all business + hated commuting and at Stony now it's all science.

Should I apply again to SOM? I really want to attend the School of Management at Bing. I always wanted to be away from home or else I would have forced myself to stayed at Baruch and commute.

Keep in mind that at the end of this semester I will have 98 credits from all three school combined (70 from Community College, 12 from Baruch (3.67 GPA), and 16 from Stony). I don't know why they rejected me twice with a pretty decent GPA. Is it worth applying again. I sort of unhappy with my current situation. What should I do??? :((

I honestly do not see the point in the final year @ Binghamton. I’m not sure if they even accept transfers this late anymore, since they generally take fresh/sophs. There really is no point… so stay where you are, graduate, and attend Binghamton for grad school if you’d like. Sorry, but its life.

SOM is VERY hard to get into as a transfer – I have heard that there are semesters where they simply accept NO transfers. Its hard to transfer into SOM even from another school within Binghamton.

The only way for you to know if you stand any greater chance of getting in this time may be for you to try to talk to someone in admissions to ask if they know whether SOM will be accepting transfers and if so if they would consider someone with as many credits as you have.

I’m sorry your other schools haven’t worked out for you. Don’t take it personally that you haven’t gotten into Binghamton – its simply a matter of SOM being that tough to get into as a transfer.

How many transfers do they approximately accept for SOM?

I wouldn’t want to attend a college that didn’t want me. No single school is that important for your major. However, I do admire your tenaciousness…and they might see that as a positve.

I wonder if you have put in real effort at Baruch and Stony Brook having transferred or looking to transfer so quickly and I worry that your school hopping will carry over into the workplace and you won’t be able to hold down a job!

You are at Stony Brook. You just got there! Give yourself a little time to adjust! They obviously have more than just pre-med and science programs so perhaps you need to look a little harder to find people with similar interests. Look for some clubs that appeal to you. Speak to some people in your classes about what they are doing. Get some ideas from your professors. Don’t convince yourself that you can’t be happy unless you get into Binghamton. Good luck!

Don’t worry about credits. They generally will not transfer all courses you have taken. Some of my friends transfered from their senior years in other shcool and became juniors here.
Good luck!
