Two big surprises in 2019 USdNews Medical School ranking!

Anyone familiar with the methodology that was used in USnews’ Medical Research Program (Medical School Ranking)? I I was very confused with NYU’s ranking this year (2019 Graduate School Rankings published on March 20, 2019)。 They improve from last year’s number 12 to this year’s number 3(only behind Number 1 Harvard and number 2 Johns Hopkins, tie with Stanford and one notch better than number UCSF). Dating back ten years, in 2009, they ranked number 20 in the nation. It didn’t surprise me if a school make good efforts to improve their program by 8 notches during the course of ten year, but an 9 notches frog leap in only one year really catches my attention. What happen to NYU’s Medical Research Program in 2017? Is there any major advancement (discovery) in their medical research that I missed big time or USNews changed (revise or modified) their evaluation (assessment) methodology that I wasn’t aware? Other big surprise also catch my eyes : Mayo Clinic School of Medicine big jump from last year’s number 20 to this year’s number 6 (tie with Upenn, better than number 8 Washington and number 10 Duke)…

Ordinals can be an illusory aspect of any ranking system. What’s the degree of data compression as measured by overall score (as compared by, e.g., the overall score for 12 vs. that for 3)?

If they don’t have changes in the rankings, people stop taking about them. They probably should only be done every ten years.

Where do I find the rankings for undergraduate and school of medicine as each data varies from website to website. Is there a reliable site to find ranking information ?
