Two grad schools...at the same time?

Here's my story: My goal is to work either in a library as a reference librarian or in a museum/archives. I've applied to three online library science programs, and one history program. I need to get both degrees to be competitive for jobs. I would like to do my library science first, because it makes me a little more employable, but there is a decent chance that the history program might fund me. Would it be completely unreasonable to take one online library class a semester while working on the history degree?

Is there a time limit to the degree? Is there a good reason you’re doing an online degree for these programs? Will the MLS degree give you practical experience?

If you can enroll part-time in the MLS program you might be able to, as long as it’s reasonable…like ticklemepink’s questions imply, most degrees have time-to-degree limits. For example, if you are a full-time student the MA in history might limit you to finishing within four semesters or six semesters (and longer if you are part-time), and if you aren’t finished by then you can only stay on special appeal.

Personally I think it’s unreasonable to expect to do one MA program part-time while doing another full-time. Even if you take three graduate classes a semester, it’s going to be a very intense experience and take up a lot of your time. If the history program is going to fund you, I would go to the history program, get your MA in history and then get a job and get the MLS later while working or something. Or see if you can find a joint history and library science degree.
