Two questions from a future ED applicant!

Hey guys, prospective senior applying to Elon ED within the next month. I've visited, demonstrated as much interest as possible, and now it's time to apply. It is somewhat of a reach for me in general, hence why I'm applying ED (loved the school, for sure want to go). However, to make my chances certain I've been told to apply under a less popular, less competitive major. Currently, I would be applying as a Religious Studies major. With that being said, it was one of those topics I have a MINOR interest in, whereas I'd rather study law, finance, or political science.

This leads me to my questions:
1. Is it easy to switch majors? Could I potentially switch from a religious studies major to finance during my freshman year (given that I do well academically GPA wise)?
2. Will applying as something like Religious Studies increase my chances of getting in?

Thanks a lot! Any insight helps!

Hi - you won’t be declaring a major until spring of freshman year at the earliest - sophomore year most likely. So, there is no issue with “switching” majors - and I truly don’t think your indication of major on the application will make a significant difference in admissions. Freshmen typically take intro classes to satisfy core requirements - and perhaps 1or 2 classes in their intended major. I see no harm in applying as a Religious Studies major if you think it gives you an edge, and it would be a nice minor if you do major in finance. Good luck.

Thanks!
