limewire gives you STDs... just like MadeInChina (get what you pay for) :(

Private trackers work fine, but... I mean, I wouldn't risk it.

If you are on a UCLA network, DO NOT download stuff! (Unless, it's a 100% legal download, of course). -- UCLA takes illegal downloading of any kind very seriously. Don't risk getting kicked out.

You can search for mp3's or avi's (or whatever other file extension) using Google.

e.g. for coldplay:
intitle:"index.of" (mp3|mp4|wav|wma|avi|wmv|asf) coldplay -html -htm -php -asp -jsp -cf

Hey guys, what if you download stuff under a Newsgroup provider that gives you SSL encrypted connection?
Has anyone ever tried or really know if that will work?

I searched for albums by googling "rar"

e.g. "real thing faith no more rar"

it turned up rapid****s & megauploads; could i have gotten caught for that?

Megaupload, sendspace, rapidshare, yousendit, and related transfer protocols are definitely more in the borderline category. You most likely won't get caught by UCLA for those kinds of file transfer, unless you obsessively download huge files right after your data limit is renewed.

I have downloaded multiple movies, albums, and software using Megaupload, sendspace, rapidshare, etc. while living in the dorms. I also downloaded anime and, yes, some porn using bittorrent. I never received a warning of any kind. In total I think I got away with ~500 GB of data. Maybe I got lucky?

Just be smart about it, kids. Big Brother is watching you.

I hope Big Brother's not reading this thread because things are getting candid!

It looks like from what people have said, UCLA will crack down if you get caught, but there's no guarantee of what will/will not get you caught. So if you want to take the risk, fine. Otherwise, go old-school (CD-sharing) or just be legal.

if you plan on applying for jobs at government agencies, such as the CIA or FBI, you better stay legal. or else you're gonna get pwnt.

Megaupload and Rapidshare is fine, though I wouldn't recommend it. hint hint
