"A recent College Reaction poll indicates a strong desire among current U.S. college students to return to their respective campuses for classes this fall, with or without a coronavirus vaccine.
The poll, conducted through a representative sample of nearly 1,000 college students, asked respondents their preference for their continuing education should there be no coronavirus vaccine or cure available by the end of summer. Almost two-thirds of those responding said they were willing to take their chances with in-person classes.
These are the students who understand their risks and are willing to continue living. These students show perseverance and an ability to assess their choices. We may never have an effective vaccine for Covid19.
My son does not drink. He is 100% ready to experience an on-campus experience for his freshman year. I fully support that idea.
I understand other students and parents may be more afraid and more cautious about Covid19 than my son and I, and I don’t think those people should attend. But if my son’s university opens the campus, we’ll be there the night before, in the hotel room ready to unload his gear.
Of course. Rates of death or risks of serious complications appear to be virtually nil for this age group, based on all the information I have seen so far.
I would send my S21 to college next year without reservation, although I admit I am glad for another year to continue to assess the information and risks.
Well my kids aren’t roof jumping from one house to another, but they will both eagerly go back to campus if given the option. My H and I would be in complete agreement with their decisions.
Very unlikely that any vaccine will be developed by or during this Fall. And any vaccine developed will likely be restricted to health care workers during the next year.
Maybe my reading skills are diminishing but seems like another meaningless poll without context. Is the poll assuming no vaccine with a “normal” experience or one with masks, social distancing, no sports, testing and with some classes online? It wasn’t clear to me. Might flip the percentages.
