My older children and their cousins are all having very different experiences in their respective programs. For example at Purdue exams are multiple choice, but at north east coast private top tier and second tier engineering programs exams are written and graded by a TA.
My son is a junior looking at engineering programs including Georgia Tech. He would benefit from a program where there is a feedback loop for seeing what went wrong on and exam. How are tests, quizzes and finals administered and graded at Georgia tech?
I am sure it depends on the class and professor, but I am pretty sure my daughter has never had a multiple choice exam. She is a junior in math. She is actually a TA for a math class this semester and grades all of the homework for the class. She AP’d out of history, etc., but she’s taken classes in chem, English, physics, math (from Calc 2 on up) and econ.
Tests in larger and generally humanities classes will have multiple choice tests. For example US history and Psych do. However any type of science class or probably major class will be free response and graded by TA. All the classes are good about either going over or posting solutions and you can submit for regrades which they take seriously. Partial credit in most classes is also a thing (especially Physics).
