Typical Freshman Classes??

So I’m looking at autumn quarter classes for honors, and one is about human trafficking and there’s some other weird ones…what the heck does that class count for?!

@Speedsolver: So it’s an option to not take math your first quarter at the UW? Awesome… Math isn’t my best subject and I’d like to adjust to college before I take on classes that I find unappealing/difficult…

Yes, not everyone has to take math, some people won’t even take a single math course at UW.

momomomo - usually that might be an I&S (Individuals and Society). It should say on the website, I think. Sometimes, these also count as Writing courses (as I found out last quarter with my Honors classes). So in essence, you can take a 5 credit course, and get 5 credits of I&S and Writing done in one class!

I’m sharing exactly the same sentiments with ilikeUW. I rather take some classes I’m more familiar and accustomed to while spending the first quarter adjusting to campus life and the weather.

Not sure what I’m picking yet, but I’ll probably slot myself into a Geography class. Debating between Elem Music Theory, Chem or Anthro classes since I need to fulfill the FVPA admissions requirement in my first year :(

What’s FVPA?

Fine, Visual and Performance Arts.

Why do you need to do it so early?

@momomomo laxaria probably didn’t satisfy that requirement in high school, and so he/she has to take a FVPA class within her first academic year at the UW. btw, i’m in the same boat

Yea I’m a he.

I’m considering taking Elem Music Theory since it’s probably the cheapest way to fulfill it since I do hold a fair amount of experience in piano and a Grade 4 ABRSM certificate in it. Still doesn’t fulfill their requirements for some odd reason. :(

What do you plan to take to fulfill it niksabs? :)

Wait, how did you even get accepted if you didn’t take fine arts in HS?

For me, technically, I don’t have a Fine Arts component in my education unless I specifically choose so. My IBDP Group Six was Economics, not Music.

The entire thing’s horribly complicated, personally. =/
