Hello! I applied to a school last weekend, and in the application I was asked to talk about a work of fiction that I felt represented me. I chose the play Angels in America by Tony Kushner, and begin my essay by talking about the main character of “Prior Walker”. This play is my favorite play, I’ve read it a dozen times; the main character’s name is PRIOR WALTER. I know that. I /know/ I know that. It’s completely inexplicable to me why I put the wrong name in the essay. None of the people that read my essay caught the mistake because none of them were familiar with the play.
I’m about to tear my hair out in frustration, I swear. Is this typo going to hurt my chances at getting into this school? I feel the rest of my application is strong, but, of course, the institution I’m going for is pretty selective (Emory University).
Ugh. What do I do?! Any advice/wisdom would be appreciated.
Aide from making some AO smile or even chuckle a bit, I do not think that it would make any difference at all. It’s a typo, and it happens, and the AOs know that it happens.
I really wouldn’t worry.
