I became aware today of this list from a coach at MIT. These rankings are often used to recruit top athletes that have the grades/scores to pick from among the best schools in the USA. While 9th in the rankings of Global Universities is not as good as a #3 in USNWR (national university undergraduate rankings) this list sure puts the Maroons in with some good global company. Also, of note-- when competing on the sports side for top recruited student athletes, four of the schools ahead of UChicago on this list do not field varsity sports in the USA. Finally, Princeton, Yale, Columbia, and Penn are all behind Chicago on this list.

Thanks for sharing. UChicago has been fairly consistent with their recruiting - Top 5 US and Top 10 Globally.
UChicago is great and probably deserves a top-10 spot anyway, but the QS Ranking itself is downright ridiculous at best and a scam at worst. See: https://www.quora.com/How-accurate-are-the-2018-QS-rankings-They-seem-to-rank-Nanyang-Tech-higher-than-Princeton-Yale-Cornell-Columbia-and-Berkeley
In short, the top 20 schools are essentially ranked by the % of international students and faculty, which has no relevance to research or teaching, and favors universities in smaller countries like the UK or Singapore. The citations per faculty count makes no distinction between counts in top-tier journals and substandard ones, and lastly, the employer reputation survey doesn’t actually ask employers to compare different universities.
This is made worse by a business model where universities can pay to be evaluated and can pay for a ‘consultancy service’ to figure out how to rise in the rankings - which is why universities like NTU, ANU and UNSW (those with the 5-star plus rating) are much higher than they are on other ranking measures.
All ranking systems have their flaws, but this one is particularly notorious and unreliable.
4 UK universities in top 10 of the world? Only thing I will say is that the British propaganda machine is top notch of the world
