@PH my daughter had the same concerns about applying to Honors. She did end up applying but was torn on doing so as she wasn’t sure it would be the best fit for her if she was accepted–she’s a lot like your son in that she’s a strong student but also has a really good work/play balance. She ultimately did not get accepted into Honors but was in Capstone and that was the perfect fit for her–she is now a Junior and a Capstone Fellow. It would have been such an honor to get into the Honors College and I thats what drove her to apply, but ultimately, the students in Capstone were more “her people”.
@g8rmomk8ans what is Capstone?
Mid- December was what we were told last year as well… we were shocked to find out in November!
@Carolina321 were they by email/portal/mail? Also, did all go out at the same time or were there different rounds for EA?
My DS21 and I visited the university and honors college in October. I was told (I think by the honors college representative) that they no longer recalculate GPA, rather they look holistically at the transcript. I understood that to be a change for this year. You could confirm this by emailing the admissions office.
@stacysmom21 : My understanding of Capstone is that it’s for high achieving students who aren’t honors eligible. Check out this link: https://sc.edu/about/offices_and_divisions/capstone_scholars/index.php
The portal came out first, then the big letter came about a week later. There were a couple of different waves of acceptances. Some of my son’s friend found out when he did and others found out a couple of weeks later. I’m not sure why.
I got a free T-shirt in the mail today!
@stlurgrl Congratulations!! I assume that means very good news is coming your way.
When did you apply? In state or OOS?
OOS, applied 10/15. lol, I’m not reading too much into the T-shirt, I’m assuming everyone applying will get one
I doubt they send a t shirt to every applicant. I see it as a good sign! ??
@stlurgrl: Did the shirt come with some type of correspondence?
@stlurgrl Congrats! Do you mind sharing your stats?
T-shirt here today, too. Small note said it was a thank you for attending a Carolina Elite Virtual Event that we attended a few weeks ago. The even was focused on honors college etc.
I didn’t notice any note with my T-shirt. I also attended an online event, I can’t remember what it was on though. It wasn’t on the honors college.
Was SC the one that asked for your t-shirt size when registering? I vaguely remember one of them asking and we thought it was odd. This would explain it.
S21 just got “gift” stickers and he attended a few events.
Guess he won’t be getting an acceptance.
My son got stickers too. Ugh.
@1intwo2go,@PH: I’ve seen your kids stats on other threads and they’re both excellent! Maybe they had surplus of a particular size which could be why your sons got stickers? I wouldn’t take it as a negative.
I only attended one general session a while back, so I’m most likely not getting anything! Also, I saw on last years thread that they only announced a handful of in state decisions early.
Don’t overthink a shirt or stickers as an indication of not getting in. Had our student not logged in for that one hour virtual session, they wouldn’t have gotten anything. I think the event was OOS specific and it wasn’t a big attendance event. This is all recruiting tactics from the school and not a decision.
