U of Toronto Engineering or U of Illinois Urbana Champaign Engineering

I am offered UNDERGRADUATE admission in these two universities. But i am still stuck about which one to choose. I really need help.

U of T will cost me approx. CAD 33,000 while UIUC will cost me approx. USD 42,000..
Cost is minor factor in my decision.

Any suggestions anyone?

Thank you very much for your attention.

Uiuc obviously.

hey thanks ansrox… do you mind giving your reasons? =D

I am assuming you are Canadian? UIUC has very high reputation in Computer Science and Engineering. Also you need to figure in (i) Tuition inflation & (ii) Exchange rate fluctuation, should you choose to attend UIUC.

After your UG, should you plan on working in Canada, then UT is a better choice, since UT has a high presence of Canadian recruiters.

Also, find out from the Career center at each university how many 2010 undergraduates have received firm job offers as of now. That should tell you something.

At today’s exchange rate, U of T is about USD 31k and U of I is 42k. USD 11k is not chump change, and approximately USD 44k (the difference for four years with no other changes in costs) is definitely not chump change either.

Just exactly what would you do with that extra USD 44k if you had it hanging around? Buy a car? Down payment on a house? A year of grad school?

If you were my kid, you’d be headed to U of T no question about it. Go sit down with the people who are helping you pay for your education, and talk through the money issue very carefully with them. In the end, they are the ones who are going to have the final say.
