UW is a diverse campus. Minneapolis is a diverse city. Do some research. The stats are out there.

You'll see people of every possible ethnic group at the U of MN. I assume the same of UW Madison, but I haven't seen that as often or as recently.

Akhtar, both of these schools are so large that there are all sorts of sub-groups on campus. It is silly of posters to imply that no student who is a non-drinker and a non-sports fan could enjoy being a student at these--or other large public--schools. I've been around large public universities for decades, as an undergraduate, a graduate student, a post-doc and a faculty member, and I can assure you that you will find a group of like-minded people.

tokenadult, since you graduated from there, I'd like to ask you...

What are the pros and cons of the U?

UW-Madison one Sunday morning in early May a few years ago.

Pros are

1) it's big (some would call this a con, but not I)

2) there are many different courses available

3) there is a good supply of international students

4) good reputation in Minnesota

Cons

1) it's big (well, some people think so)

2) some courses not available every year

3) limited supply of non-Minnesota students

4) mediocre reputation outside Minnesota

Maybe I'll think of more later.

Looks like I'll be attending UMN.

Is it hard to transfer from CLA to Carlson?

Bump if anyone has an idea.

Is it hard to transfer from CLA to Carlson? YES the average transfer GPA into Carlson is 3.85 and the acceptance rate is very low. The best chance of getting into Carlson is as a freshman

"I'm not into school spirit or sports, and in fact I hate drinking."

Then I think Wisconsin would be a bad fit. Students there tend to enjoy themselves.

Not that there's a big difference, but the average transfer GPA into Carlson for Fall 2007 was actually a 3.74, not a 3.85.

Wisconsin for undergraduate business and Minnesota for the M.B.A.

You can try to change your major choice before your attend. In fact, they are reconsidering my college from CLA(undecided) to IT(undecided engi)...

PS:It's so interesting that I don't like too many sports and school spirit ( I just want to play sports to relax myself) and I hate parties too.... so this thread is very useful for me to know if UMN fits me.

yes it is very hard to transfer into Carlson. but if you decide to go to minnesota (which it looks like you have) and you are looking to go in a finance track, they have a highly regarded economics program in CLA

UW would be my suggestion. That said, UMinnesota has parties, just like UWisconsin....but UW feels more cohesive. Can't go wrong, either way. By the way, I commend you for thinking about fit.
