That man does not know I'm a good writer. He doesn't know I'm a published writer. He doesn't know I am a Community Organizer--three years strong. He doesn't know I evaluated a school curriculum. He does not know that I have a relationship with an author of three books who is also the head of two departments in a prestigious school. That man does not know that a New York Times journalist is a friend and mentor of mine. He does not know that I have strong recommendations. He does not know that I was a guest speaker at Rutgers University, and will return for more engagements. That man will remember my name when he reviews my application.

I'm sorry, but I just had to vent.

oops......

willpower, don't be discouraged by that phone call. I suggest sending in your applicationg regardless. You seem very enthusiastic and determined to attend UPenn that it'd it be a shame to be swayed by one phone call and to resign yourself to giving up.

If it's any consolation, I'm in the same situation - I was a mediocre student in high school and did extremely poorly on my first stint in college (at a local state school). However, I've since enrolled at the local community college, performed well academically and have been extremely involved in extra curricular activities. I certainly hope that the admissions officers will look past your high school record and at the grander picture. Anyhow, good luck from a fellow UPenn CGS applicant!

Sopdadope,

Thanks for the encouraging response. I'm still going to apply. I actually had a phone interview with an admissions committee member a couple of days ago. It went extremely well--at first she told me the same thing that guy had told me, but then she was really into me (I made her laugh a lot). She said she would write down everything I had said. I guess she'll pull that out when she comes across my application (for some reason, I have a feeling that she will advocate for me). Any who, what other schools are you applying to. Boston College has a good adult/part time program, it's called Woods College of Advancing Studies.

Let us know how it goes...keep your chin up.

Hi, Did your credits from Junior College transfer to Penn? I have around 45 and I wouldn't want to lose them. Also, how is the work load at CGS? Do you have to read around 150 pages per class for the week? And how about the grading? Are they lenient graders or is the grading stiff at CGS?

I'm a GS student at Columbia and I want to transfer to Penn CGS for this fall. Although I like Columbia it is way too expensive for me and the workload and grading is stiff.

To answer a previous thread the acceptance rate at Columbia GS is 57%. I am certain of this as I saw it on our provost's page.

Thanks.

Hi, I am thinking about transferring to CGS. Did all your credits from CC transfer to CGS? or some of it? I have around 45 and I would hate to lose them.
