UA Operations Management versus Industrial Engineering Degrees

My son is a NMS Finalist with 4.4/4.0 GPA, 34 ACT and 1540 SAT, so he has received tons of merit aid including the $167,400 NMF package from UA. He really is math oriented and wants to combine engineering and business. This interest has led him towards Industrial Engineering. He has been accepted at several colleges for Industrial Engineering, but he really likes Alabama. His concern with Alabama is that they do not offer a ABET accredited Industrial Engineering program, but they do offer Operations Management in the Culverhouse College of Commerce. The degree in Operations Management sounds very vague so he is contemplating adding a second major in Computer Science (ABET). Are UA Operations Management grads competitive in the job market against others with ABET accredited Industrial Engineering degrees?

@GaelRacer, the students who end up choosing Culverhouse over the College of Engineering many times are going into MIS (a particularly well-regarded major at UA), which is in the same department as the OM major:

I think it’s relatively easy to double-major in MIS or Operations Management and another Culverhouse major (or Mathematics): I’m guessing any of those majors combined with CS would make your son quite marketable post graduation. UA CS students, in general, do VERY well in the marketplace - but it’s a very tough major.

The other option is to major in CS or another engineering discipline and apply for the STEM Path to MBA program: https://culverhouse.ua.edu/graduate-programs/stemmba/
