UAA recruiting

I'm wondering if anyone has experience with recruiting in UAA schools (Emory, NYU, U Chicago, Wash & Lee, etc.). My d was asked to send test scores, transcripts, etc. by a school in that group but then when asked, the coach said there are no prereads for either admission or fin aid, and seemed to indicate that the coach doesn't have any kind of admissions pull. If this is true, then I appreciate the honesty, but then why did my d have to send in scores/grades? I'm wondering if we misunderstood what the coach meant when he said admissions doesn't offer prereads and he cant offer any assistance with admissions. I mean, who was looking at the grades if not admissions?

should we conclude that d is not a top choice? He sure made it sound like she was. Her best times in her top two events would break their school records. My husband thought maybe because she has nearly perfect grades he didn't want to "waste" a recruitment spot on her. I dunno, her test scores are okay but nothing special. Thoughts? D is a swimmer, by the way.

My thought is that even if the coach has very little influence with admissions, he may have wanted to see your daughter’s scores and transcripts to make sure that continuing the conversation wasn’t a waste of everyone’s time.

Thanks for that link! Had no idea I could have searched for exactly this question, with all the recruitment discussions I’ve read, it seemed if the coach asked for grades, etc. we were going through a procedure. Certainly at Nescac schools the coaches have said to us that the grades/scores go to admissions. I’ve read page one of that discussion, 11 more to go!
