UC Application Deadline for Transfers extended until January 4th?

@goldencub, you said it way better than I did. I suspect most of this concern is now based on second-guessing. You all submitted what you thought were two strong PSs, and I’m sure they are.

I venture if you had the extra month from the outset, you’d be starting in mid-Dec. Everyone should be happy with their submissions, and I can almost guarantee anyone who might apply in this December window has not started the application and will be less prepared than you ever were.

Also, just a heads up to @briank82 and @mikesauce, you’re both Haas, so they examine those PS on a level far greater than regular admissions, so I can understand the added stress there.

P.S. Did not know that about the college of chemistry.

My application is solid and my essays, I think, are pretty amazing. I didn’t procrastinate and put a ton of energy into them and when all is said and done, I’m happy they’re done. I just would have rather been able to concentrate on calculus (and my other six classes…) rather than stressing over an application, when really I could have finished them over a break with no classes.

I posted a comment on the UC Facebook and a few people responded saying “had I known I would have made my personal statement better!” or similar messages. That isn’t where I stand at all, just would have rather not dealt with them going as we head into finals week.

BUT … it’s done and it’s over, and I’m glad I don’t have to worry about them.

And my personal statements are amazing. :stuck_out_tongue:

@goldencub and @briank82 I KNOW your essays are amazing and you’ll both be at Berkeley next fall. B-)

 They’re way better now than how they were. I did some serious work on them and I’m really happy with how they turned out. And now … we wait!

I wasn’t planning on applying to UC since my GPA isn’t competitive, but then I heard they were accepting 5000 extra students so I decided to apply at the last minute. I’m pretty confident in my personal statements, but I won’t deny that extra time would’ve been nice. I really think they should’ve extended the deadline sooner instead of 2 days after the app closed…

Well @briank82 did bring up the convenience of being able to do it when this term’s finals were over and I will agree that part would have been helpful. But there it is.

Personally, I still kind of think the story in the media is leaving simething out. Like I said somewhere else 5000 students (2/3 freshmen, 1/3 transfers) - they could have just taken them from the applications already in. And why didn’t they extend freshmen?

I’m thinking they had less transfer applicants than usual and are hoping to raise the numbers so their final admit rate stays relatively low. That’s the only thing that makes any sense to me.

A majority of the new applicants are going to be students who are not serious about going to UCs

@KarlMarks except you don’t really know that or the circumstances or lives of other students. Some may have ran into personal issues or academic issues that prevented them from submitting on time, it could be a lot of things.

Exactly, that’s why I said a majority. Most of the people that were eager to enter a UC in the fall made sure to turn in their apps during the first deadline.

Yes, I am one of “those guys” who submitted their application after the deadline as a transfer applicant.

I only applied just for shits and giggles.
It looks like I don’t really stand a chance.

I was from CSU Maritime my first 3 semesters and withdrew/was kicked out.
Currently I’m at 2 community colleges.

GPA: 2.92 without Fall 2015 and this coming Spring grades.
Major: Political Science (History alternate)
TAG: No
Applied to: CSUF, CSUSB, CSULA, Cal Poly, SDSU, UCI and UCR for Fall 2016
Accepted: CSULA (so far)

I’d laugh if I actually get in. Honest. If being a vet gives my application street cred, I won’t complain.

Being a vet really helps. I hope you wrote about it in your personal statements!

While I too wish that I could have concentrated more on getting situated in this new city, finding a new job, and finishing up my AA (at two different schools), I think the deadline actually made me work quite a bit harder. Of course, my initial response was to the extension, “UGH, SERIOUSLY?”, but I’m pretty happy with my PS and application. Honestly, the PS was the big thing for me and UCLA had SO many resources available for us that, by the time I submitted, I felt pretty confident. I mean, I am still actively biting my nails as to whether I’ll get in or not (I can’t imagine how bad they’ll look by April!), but I did the absolute best that I could with the resources that I had.

I can’t help but imagine that they didn’t say anything about extending the deadline until after November 30th for a specific reason (if not a few).

So from an optimistic point of view, say that the campuses are putting all 5000 toward new transfer students, divide that by 7 (excluding cal and LA) we are looking at a 3-8 percent increase in admit rates.
Pessimistic view: @lindyk8 if what you say is correct, even the1500 divided amongst the 7 schools would still bump up admit rates by 1-4 percent depending on your school.
This is based off this years records so assuming its similar next year, all in all we have a better shot everyone. Don’t see this as a negative. As everyone has been saying, chances are the ones who are even thinking about applying now are CSU applicants teetering on the decision of wasting 70 dollars on an application.

I did.
