*****UC Berkeley 2021 Applicants Thread*****

I have a 4.14 UC W GPA and a 1380 on the new SAT but I received a LOR about 3-4 wks after I submitted. What does that indicate?

@collegehopeful2021chs I didn’t receive a LOR request. I have a 32 single I believe (34 superscore) ACT and a 4.67 ish UC GPA. Since I didn’t get a LOR which means that I’m not a boarderline applicant, can I assume I’ve most likely been accepted (I’m also in-state)?

@soulpup if you got it right after you submitted, probably. I don’t think the algorithm Berkeley uses for admits takes school into account.

@acpadt if it was 3-4 weeks, they may have wanted some more information about your application so that they could make a better decision.

@RoonilWazlib99 I don’t think UCs use senior year grades when considering a student because we had no senior year grades to report when the app was due. I think UCs only use sophomore and junior year grades to calculate a GPA.

@scarletwitchx I actually applied in late November but got the LOR request at the start of Jan. No idea why. In any event, I’ll know my fate soon.

@ap012199 oops i meant 10-11

Based on people’s posts, i really believe that the LOR requests are completely random. I got a request with a 35 ACT, and 4.44 UC gpa. some friends of mine with higher stats also got requests, who don’t really seem like borderline applicants.
i got into irvine, sb, davis with regents, and SD, but got rejected from UCLA. not sure what this indicates for berkeley, but hoping for the best!

@giraffes11 I’m pretty sure (almost 100%) that LORs were given to borderline candidates and candidates on the borderline for Regents.

I got an LOR request with a 1520 SAT (single sitting, new SAT) and a 4.64 uncapped GPA; is LOR based on scores or an initial holistic review?

@corgiluverxoxo probably because you were being considered for Regents

@ap012199 Does that mean not all regents decisions were made in early Feb?

No, all Regents candidates were informed in February. You may have been considered for the scholarship but not offered candidacy.

Ahh okay, I see. Thank you

@rhanon510 With your stats and achievements, I think not getting the LOR request was a good sign.

People. You have applied to Berkeley. Your application better tell a genuine story of who you are and your zest and passion for life. From grades/scores to leadership to Ec’s to volunteerism. Beyond the grades and scores. It better express a portrait of the difference of HOW you will make on their campus. You want us to chance you? Just answer these questions.

Last college that I’m gonna hear from. I’m expecting a rejection which is no big surprise. Started Feb/March great as I was accepted into 4 schools. Then came the 2 waitlists (UCSD WHYYYYYYYY?!?!) and rejection :frowning: huh.
Hmm looks like I’m gonna have to get a dorm room no matter what now. Just wish my last result could be an acceptance.

Guys, have you heard of the saying that “you cannot be admitted to UCLA and Berkeley at the same time”?
I mean, there are people who get in both, but not many. I was rejected by UCLA so…putting my hope on this.

@crazytm to be honest, the chances of being admitted to either institution is extremely low. that’s why its such a rewarding and unpredictable achievement to be admitted. To your point, yes, you can’t really use ucla predict to cal

i’m sorry, but what’s a LOR request again?

@studioghibli idk if this is you since your name is somehow spaced apart? But a LOR request is a Letters of Recommendation Request that Berkeley sends out to about 20% of applicants.

Correction: This is not you Studio Ghibli but idk how to post your name then xD (also I really like your name)
