omg the decision is out!!! BERKELEY!!! GOLDEN BEAR!!!

my friend emily just got in too!!!

Change the proxy to future time!!! OMG it works

lmao it better be 5pm cuz I’ve been waiting and it felt like 9803498091098019340390 years

I hope I get in I literally got waitlisted or rejected everywhere except UCSD. And I applied to like 15 schools. Berkeley, please save me

As everyone waits for admissions to come out. I thought as a current Golden Bear I could share my thoughts on admissions and Cal.

First off, I am a intended CS major here at Cal. Class of 2020 (I got some solid vision btw). I don’t remember my SAT scores and GPA from last year so don’t ask me and stop worrying about it. One of the most commons realizations people have had at Berkeley is realizing how much EC’s and grades DID NOT MATTER in HS. People face many regrets about their HS career, but embrace a new way of living here at Cal.

Cal is an amazing place. It is truly the #1 public university (best university in the world in my opinion). We hit all top rankings in every area (including Celtic Studies). If you want grade inflation, easy A’s, and not much work, go to Harvard or any Ivy league honestly. Cal is very difficult. Cal is not for everyone and admissions doesn’t make too many mistakes. If you get in, you are mostly likely qualified. If you don’t, you probably wouldn’t have enjoyed Cal anyways. Cal is competitive, cut throat, and down to earth. Cal is also kind, supportive, and encouraging. The feel here is that everyone will succeed in their life. So many people do amazing things.

Ok now I’m just rambling. Basically, good luck. Almost everyone will end up at a school they love. If you come to Cal, hmu. It’s pretty dope around here. Academics is hard but a lot of fun. Also if you are into sports like me, we have great programs. Basketball and Football are about to have down years though. The basketball program at Cal though paid for me to go to Vegas with the team for the Pac-12 Tournament though, which was a ton of fun. Go to the Cal games and you will definitely see me there.

Good luck tonight!!! Hope you join the bear family!!!

I should probably get back to studying for my Math and CS midterms next week. Hope you got more than nothing out of this loooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnggggggg post. Join our meme page. We have a lot of members…

Quick and possibly weird question. If I go to school with the transgender boy whose case was before the Supreme Court, and I mentioned him in my app, does that make me stand out? I’m friends with him.

I normally drink 2 cups of coffee in the morning (spaced between 4-5 hours) but today I had to get a decaf because this anxiety has got me running on full speed already.

@tenaciousteen113 No.

Ah, okay. I didn’t think so but doesn’t hurt to ask.

@tenaciousteen113 imp I think it hurts you more than helps, makes you look like you’re riding on someone else’s coat tails. Sorry good luck

Well you’d have to read it in the context of the essay.

I wanted to know if everyone else has received emails in December, Jan and Feb from Berkeley. Back in Dec I got a request for LOR’s, then I got a Happy New Year email, then I got an email explaining that if I should be admitted I would need to pick a first year pathway so review the information, then in Feb I received another email basically saying although you may have heard of some applicants being admitted, your application is still under review.
It just seemed like a lot of emails with them keeping me up to date. I am hoping this is a good sign.
I got emails from UCSC that were not as frequent but similar, and I got accepted.
I got zero emails from UCSD and UCSB and was denied admission.

Anyone else receive anything like this?

I got all those emails except for the LOR request. I’m trying not to get my hopes up though. @anxious98

@anxious98 this is probably not a sign because all of us have gotten the same emails. i got all of them except the LOR

I still wonder if applicants with lower than average GPA and ECs, who didn’t get LOR request, are automatically rejected in the first place cz im really worried rn

yeah they actually have a great, highly technical video on youtube about how the LOR process works

@ColinAxner

It’s great to take pride in your school, but you really shouldn’t make such ignorant and negative comments about other schools, especially ones so well-regarded.

do they send a congratz email or do you have to log into the portal to find out?
