did anyone get the Cal Alumni Association email?
I did
I did–not sure if it’s sent out to every admittee though.
Also, I think you have to SIR to view the housing application.
Do you think acceptance rate went down or up for Berkeley?
We just paid $250 for my son’s SIR today.
If i have a question about financial aid is it okay of my dad calls since he knows what were tryijg to ask or do i have to?
@parisgeller It’s definitely fine if a parent calls. Colleges expect that many parents want to be involved in their kids’ college selection / financial aid processes
@parisgeller, he may want to call while you are with him. When i called last week the recording aid something to the effect that they can he share particulars with so someone other than the student.
Also does anyone know if Cal guarantees housing for freshman? I think i remember them saying housing is not guaranteed for any year.
thank you! @letsshare @Teumessian
@parisgeller As per some EECS alumni, average GPA for CS major is around 3.0 and GPA required to declare CS major is 3.3 which is doable.
@ashleyucla2021 yes, DD got it.
Berkeley or UCLA for civil engineering? I am a very social person but have no plans on joining Greek Life. Berkeley is ranked number one and UCLA has the social element to it as well. Im super conflicted right now
from what I know, Berkeley is still a very social school (at least, everyone I know there very much has a life outside of their major)
Anyone here admitted with an IB conditional offer? Not a minimum of 3.0 GPA, but with an IB provisional contract?
@gavarno88 Berkeley doesn’t care about IB except for college credits.

Thinking about UCLA now
Oddly (or not too surprisingly, actually) one mom at Bruin Day yesterday said the UCB freshman dorms (standard triples) were smaller than the UCLA standard freshman tripples. Then I messaged s.one I know at UCB asking same question; current student replied that the tripples both places are the same size. Tie-breaker opinion, anyone?
Hi stopping by and wanted to give advice to all those making decisions right now: SIMPLY DO NOT COME HERE. It is the most awful undergrad experience ever (especially if you’re apart of engineering/EECS, MCB, any competitive major). The over the top pressure cooker atmosphere, grade deflation, gloomy weather, constant threat of being attacked by homeless, continuous aroma of marijuana, rivalries instead of friends attitude, awful food around campus, etc has made me regret my decision last year. This place has simply drove me insane. As a first year student, I am currently looking at my options to try and transfer out of this miserable place. Do not do my same mistake
As a person very familiar with so many UC Berkeley students, past and present, while the above is one student’s experience, I know so many that have an entirely different experience and could not have been happier at Berkeley and could not have had a better experience. As with any college or university, individual experiences may vary and what is right for one student may not be right for another. It is serious academically, but not to the point of a pressure cooker and not rivalries instead of friends in general. And the weather is typical of Northern California – sometimes rainy but far from gloomy and really very attractive. Another view.
