@TheGuy1 How competetive is HAAS? I wan’t allowed to apply to HAAS on my UC app so does that mean it was first come first serve on the app? It doesn’t make sense for it just to be there with people unable to apply.
But HAAS is pretty competitive. If you get in, you can still shift/add a major from any school, but generally competitiveness/overapplied/filled students may mean an entrance test/proving yourself in some way to get official permission to add/shift the major.
THis depends on the scene this fall with HAAS, and if u go to UCB. Regardless, it’ll mostly end up with some sort of test to get the major, after rigorous paperwork
Whats up y’app! I’m currently a freshman at Cal. I know how everyone feels cuz this was me last year. The most important part of your application is your essay!!! Id y’all wanna talk more feel free to hit me up on instagram @yungant619
@letsgorams there should be a thread on Data Science at Berkeley. You should post questions there as any questions you ask here will get lost very shortly.
You guys, generally people who go to Berkeley aren’t going to follow this conversation because it’s going to really blow up in a few weeks and the amount of emails we’ll get whenever someone posts that they got in will be insane, so ask questions on ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT BERKELEY HERE because we’re paying attention to that.
@letsgorams TheGuy1 is sort of randomly guessing. As someone who applied, here’s how it works.
You do have the option of applying to the very competitive GMP or MET programs, doing the interview, etc, and maybe getting in as a freshman, but you’re probably past that.
At this point, you get into Berkeley as an undeclared whatever, you take a business class, econ class, calc class, and stats class while doing breadth (random class) requirements and joining business clubs and frats. Then you apply November sophomore year, which involves like 500-600 words or something, and just posting your college resume and grades (college is a reset. Nothing from high school matters on your resume anymore). Then, if you’re lucky, you get an interview (means you’re borderline), and then about 30% get in in February.
I am actually speculating, and you’re correct. My statements are based on secondhand hearings, and secondhand analysis. This is only specific to Studying for a major at HAAS, (and idk the dynamics of that) since the rest is not being questioned by me, and I agree to that.
Back in the fall when I was applying to colleges, my teachers automatically sent my letters of rec to all the colleges I was applying to through our school’s system, including UCB even though they knew they didn’t have to send my LORs there.
So on my UCB portal, it listed my LORs along with my ACT scores being received. I’d checked my portal today and my LORs are not listed anymore. Last time I remember them being listed there was probably in January (last time I’d logged in) ?
Should this bring any concern? I’m well aware they don’t need my LORs but wouldn’t my LORs be removed/unlisted awhile ago if this was the case? They could also ignore them and not have unlisted them. I feel like I’m reading too much into this, any thoughts?
@Itiznotfare My response was in reply to @letsgorams ’ concern that he/she couldn’t apply to Haas on his/her application and that it was somehow first come first served to apply on the UC app.
@TheGuy1 Gotcha, just waiting till Late March. Economics 1460 SAT (670 R 790 M) 4.25 W UC GPA 3.83 UW Top 10% 10 APs and Good ECs/Essays. Very Nervous!!
you should be fine in that regard, but since idk exactly of your EC’s/Essays (only the adcom can appropriately judge those subjectives in context of you and the class of 2023)
Just be calm ,and hope for the best.
You can expect an acceptance, but at top colleges, there may be many other reasons for another dec as well.
Surprizingly: it sometimes comes down to the adcom’s gut decision for apps who may equally thrive there.
