For any Cal Regents finalists who already interviewed at Irvine, do you have any advice for those of us preparing for interviews this week?
@acasperxo Check their page out for interviews/tips regarding.
Honestly thats all IMO
@TheGuy1 Sorry if this is a dumb question, but which page are you talking about?
I think specific UC schools have pages on their website regarding Interviews and everything related?
So check 'em out. I think those are helpful.
Any idea when the decisions are coming out…?
March 28 3pm PT
Where did you get the information that UC Irvine already interviewed its Regents candidates?
@ProfessorPlum168 how do you know it’s 3PM?
That’s what it’s been in the past
@acasperxo check this thread to see if it helps.

The interviewer has your application so make sure you are knowledgeable and passionate about what you do in high school
Good luck to all of you potential future Bears! Such an exciting time! All of your hard work coming to fruition! My son is in his second semester at Cal and was in your shoes last year so I know what you’re going through! He was admitted off waitlist first round L&S and got asked for letters of recommendation. It did seem at the end that the addresses on portal started doing weird things (changing from 2 to 4) causing many to speculate what that meant. It would be interesting to see if that occurs this year. To even be able to apply to Cal as a contender, you all should be very proud of yourselves! My son did not have the “perfect” GPA but it was his dream school and I think that shone through in his application. I’ve found UC Berkeley to stay pretty true to their holistic approach and choose students they feel will be the change in this world to round out their classes each year. Again best of luck…and feel free to ask me any questions!!
The addresses in fact did weird things to my son’s portal right before February 8th.
What major is your son currently pursuing?
Yep, good luck to all of you applying this year. My kid is also in his second semester in L&S as a CS-intent major/DS double major. If everything goes according to plan with CS 70, he’ll be able to declare after this semester. He had a very pedestrian UC GPA, barely above 4.00 (but had mostly outstanding stats other than the UC uncapped weighted). Yes, all of you who applied should be proud of yourself and regardless of the outcome, things will be ok. One thing I can say is that do not try and extrapolate an acceptance. Every school has their own acceptance criteria. To wit, my kid got accepted for UCB but got waitlisted for UCI and UCSD. My kid didn’t apply to any safeties and every rejection and waitlist he was getting was agonizing. But it all worked out in the end.
@StevenToCollege did they change from 2 to 4 sets? He’s a little undecided but somewhere in L&S…possibly Social Welfare
@knowledgeispower18 what day was he accepted from the waitlist?
@123california Ummmm…I know it was a little later than usual because of some UC Negotiations going on that said would delay waitlist notifications, but 5/7 I think. That was the first wave. One thing my son did that I think was good in heindsight was prepare a waitlist essay right before decisions posted before even knowing he had been waitlisted just in case he was in that position. I think it paid off.
They generally start looking at the waitlist after May 1, since all the accepts have enrolled by then.
If you choose to be on the waitlist, you’ll be looked at then.
My guess is if the list is ranked, the first ‘n’ get off such that their expected no. of classmates’ full.
If not ranked:
Otherwise ig the re-read the analyses of the waitlists and then offer them based on best fit again.
Otherwise they just pick on random (scary, mostly not)
Idk if UCB has a ranked waitlist, but many schools dont (top ones).
I think an app might hear a month later (1st week of June) at latest about their spot, but idk, thats for most colleges
Again, the set no. of people they want off is only after analysing who’s enrolled and how that class is, and then seeing how much they need to have in the class.
To anyone from berkeley, what is the data science program like?
Also, is it possible to double major in HAAS and L&S?
