UC Berkeley Appeal (2014)

So I just got off the phone with someone from the undergraduate admissions office at Berkeley. He said that they received about 800-900 appeals and only 25 students were admitted. As far as he knows, there isn’t going to be another wave. He also said that if your student portal has not changed, then it means you were denied admission. Well, I guess I can get on with my life now.

@Tammy123, thank you for the info!The 800-900 appeals include both fresh and transfer applicants? If 25 is all they accept, I just hope they can send out rejections sooner than later.

It’s a weird day today. I have been following this thread a thousand times a day, and today is one of the few days that not many people feel like talking.

@Tammy123 @Changoflife
I do wonder if that includes transfer appeals as well, since the appeal date was much later for us than freshman applicants. 800-900 appeals sounds about right the for number of people who weren’t admitted as freshmen, as the application rate is much higher; 25 people is also ~3% which sounds correct for the reversal rate. There are significantly less transfer students though.

@Anxiety94‌ You should definitely call the admissions and ask this question because it will be plaguing us

@Anxiety94‌ @chaoscuber‌ yeah can someone? I would do it myself but my phone is pretty much dead and am currently on the road :|

@chaoscuber @Bookham
Bah don’t worry about it guys… we’ll most likely be hearing back tomorrow or the day after…

Well that kinda sucks that they don’t even give a reply to some people… If they rejected your appeal, the least they could do is say it on the portal. :(

So how many people are waiting for their Freshman appeal admission status? Is the freshmen wave done or is it still going on? If not, how many transfer students are waiting?

I’m waiting for freshman but after what Tammy123 said, I think I’m gonna move on…

@Changoflife @Anxiety94 I don’t know if they were talking about transfers since I did contact undergraduate admissions.

I’m still waiting for a reply too (freshman)…If there’s one thing I hate, it’s being left hanging and I really do hope they’ll just blatantly state “we did not reverse our initial decision”, rather than leave us staring at the “Please check back regularly…” thing…

@snuffles36 right! I wouldn’t have felt as bad if they’d at least mentioned it on the portal.

@chaoscuber @cmztreeter007 I was waiting for it too but now I’m just going to move on. I can’t live by checking my portal every 69 seconds.

So is the end of the line in respect to appealing our decisions?

@SB0112‌ not entirely sure cause they did not seem to specify if that was for just freshman, or with transfers included?

@Bookham
Dang… still haven’t gotten my decision. I’m starting to really think that the waves of appeals were only for the freshmen. They probably release transfer appeals all at once.

@anxiety94 yeah probably :l i think we should call them; i probably will later today and ask about when we should expect to hear back

@Bookham
I think we’ll be hearing back tomorrow to be honest. I have a few friends who’ve gotten in on appeals, and the letters are always dated “May 30th”

@Anxiety94‌ dang really? that’s amazing, i always thought appealing was impossible and only really did it cause my ochem professor actually encouraged me to and said i had a shot lol. and yeah i have a feeling that it will be tomorrow too, cause a friend of mine told me that UC Berkeley likes to push things to the last minute :l oh well i guess we will probably find out tomorrow. Hope for the best! ya never know we could both possibly get in
