UC Berkeley HAAS

Hi! So I’m going to be a freshman applicant this upcoming fall 2016, and I was wondering, if I wanted to apply to HAAS school of business my junior year, is any major eligible? For example, if I get admitted as a political science major, can I still apply for HAAS or can you only apply to HAAS if you’re undeclared pre-business admin? Also, if I do decide to apply as undeclared pre-business admin for freshman year, and I dont get accepted into HAAS my junior year, then what happens? Will I remain undeclared my entire time at UC Berkeley?

First off, you apply to Haas the fall of either your sophomore year (which most people do) or your junior year (you can only apply once). You find out whether or not you were accepted in the beginning of the second semester.

  1. Yes, anyone can apply to Haas.
  2. You would declare another major. Most Haas applicants have a backup major and do the prerequisites for them in addition to the haas pre-requisites. .
Every freshmen enters the college of letters & science undeclared. Your intended major is not considered (if you apply L&S) in the admissions process.

@ClassOf2015HS Thanks for the reply! Appreciate it. Would you recommend I enter as a poli sci major or undeclated business major? And when you apply for HAAS, do they consider your major? For example, if I entered as a poli sci major, would I have less of a chance of getting in as compared to undeclared pre business admin? If every freshman enters the college of letter and science undeclared, then when do you declare your major at Berkeley?

Sorry for the bundle of questions, I really appreciate your help!

If you enter as a frosh in the College of Letters and Science, you will enter undeclared, regardless of what intended major you put on the application.

L&S students may declare their majors upon completion of the specified prerequisite courses for the major (a few may require a GPA higher than 2.0 in the prerequisites, but political science is not one of them). An example for political science is described at http://polisci.berkeley.edu/undergraduate-program/declaring-major . Those who entered as frosh are expected to declare a major by their third year. More L&S information can generally be found at http://ls-advise.berkeley.edu/major/major.html .

@ucbalumnus Thanks for the reply! Appreciate it. As stated above, would you recommend I enter as a poli sci major or undeclated business major if I am possibly considering HAAS? And when you apply for HAAS, do they consider your major? For example, if I entered as a poli sci major, would I have less of a chance of getting in as compared to undeclared pre business admin?

It does not really matter if you enter in the College of Letters and Science – you will be undeclared until you either declare a major in the College of Letters and Science or change to a different division like Business.

@ucbalumnus Thanks for the tip! Youre so helpful! I appreciate it.
