Okay so I just got the supplement thing, and I was wondering I it was because of My mediocre Stats (GPA 4.2/ SAT 2130 (R800)/ SuB LIt 790 US 700/ 3APs 3,4,5- but my school doesnt offer any till Junior year)
Or beccause I mentioned being abused in my Essay?

^ those were my EXACT EXACT same stats, but I didn’t get supplemented. idk if thats a good or bad thing seeing as they’ve probably already made decisions

Will a C+ in CALC hurt mee when sending the questionaire!!?

I got the supplement questionnaire last night and they told me to turn it in within 10 days. I remember reading on the website that the supplement and teacher rec. was due Jan 31st!

So if it’s due Jan 31st, then they only told me 3 days in advance which sounds ridiculous to me.

It makes more sense to follow the instructions on the email: “within 10 days.” I tried calling the admissions office to make sure but they don’t answer! It’s friday so its the last day they are open until Jan 31st…

What do I do?

@heytherek

They said it can’t hurt you, so I don’t think it would. It doesn’t look like that helps you in any way though. =/

The 10 days is a minimum - they will not return to complete the admissions decision work until at least 10 days from when you were notified. It may be longer, but you have no way of knowing when they actually look. Someone who submits it 20 days afterwards may have that information considered, if the application returns after that time, or the reader may have already processed the application on the assumption that the applicant declined to submit additional information. It is definitely not a fixed date for everyone, it is 10 days from when your reader triggered the request to you and the form popped up on your myberkeleyapp site.

i never got any questionnaire…did everyone get it or only a select few? and why those select few??
however I did get a survey…

I sincerely hope that you will take the time to participate. The survey will only take about 5-10 minutes, and your input will help Berkeley improve services to applicants for undergraduate admissions . Your responses will be kept strictly confidential, and neither your name nor other identifying information will be released. Your responses will have no influence whatsoever on our admissions decisions.

I did fill out the survey… mostly was about other schools you are applying to and why you chose Berkeley…and i filled it up honestly… is this the same thing as the questionnaire you all are talking about?? but it says: Your responses will have no influence whatsoever on our admissions decisions.

It is not. The supplemental questionnaire will show up on your myberkeleyapp site and clearly states it is for the purpose of finalizing a decision on admissions. It asks you to self-report your first half senior grades, asks several other questions, and has a link that you give to a teacher or counselor that they will use to file a confidential recommendation about you. Only a very small percent of all applicants receive the supplemental request.

If anyone here has gotten one of those “borderline” supplementals, would you mind posting the types of questions it asks? I would just like to know seeing as I may be borderline myself… thx!

The borderline supplement asks questions such as :Does your high school provide adequate educational resources (such as teachers, counselors, assistance with course selection and college admission planning, books, facilities, size and location)? If not, please explain.

Are you required to complete non-academic courses or courses that do not meet the UC a-g requirements (e.g.: academy, magnet, AVID, religion, leadership, or any other special program classes)? If yes, please explain

Are there any personal circumstances that may have affected your ability to achieve academically (such as working, family responsibilities, etc.)?

These are the key questions because they do not relate to a talent or disability

^No, those are definitely the disadvantaged/special circumstances questions.

I know all the questions from the 3 supplements are posted on this thread somewhere but I can’t say I feel like going through 16 pages for you right now. :P

hrrrmmm, this is weird. I got this questionaire but i have no disability and i don’t think i mentioned any on the regular app. What exactly does this mean…?

are they still sending those out? i really hope they are. I have pretty borderline stats for Cal and it could only mean a sure rejection if I do not receive one…

heytherek, what questions are on your questionnaire? Are they the same as the ones mentioned by shubzy? Or do they pertain more to “borderline-ness” rather than a special talent/disability?

To every1 else, has anyone gotten a “borderline” supplemental? What sort of questions does it ask? I’m really curious, and I bet a lot of other ppl might be too with borderline stats like me.

Yes, i have the same one as shubzy. At first i thought this was the low income/diasbility one, but people are telling me its actually the borderline supplement.

i got the low income/disablity one last year and i worked really hard on it and go in! try ur best on it cuz it means ur borderline!!!

got***** message me if you have any questions!

does getting a questionnaire increase your chances of getting in?

Hi everyone, i’ve read all of the comments about the questionaire, and i’m getting very nervous too because I’ve received one of the UCBerk. supplemental questionaire as well. I heard that it does mean that you’re on a borderline or it could just simply means that your application was not clear enough for them to process your application.
I’m just getting very nervous because I did not even think that I had a chance in berkeley because my SAT I was too low for Berkeley…but can anyone tell me their stats who got in with the supplement? from my research it says tat more than 50% of those people with the supplement gets in.

For someone who didn’t think they would get in, this is a very very good omen and your odds increased substantially. Someone reading your application saw something that they thought might compensate for your stats and warrant inclusion in the incoming class.
