Hey guys!! I was admitted into UC berkeley Civil Engineering and UC San Diego structural engineering. I am having such a hard time choosing between the two. I’ve visited San Diego and i loved it!! I’m visiting UC bekeley on Cal Day (April 21). I know that Berkeley is #1 for civil engineering but I’m worried that i will just fail at Berkeley and i won’t be able to find a job. It’s especially hard for me to choose because Berkeley Engineering in general is 3rd in the nation and UCSD general Engineering is 9th in the nation. I know Engineering is competitive but is that STRESSFUL enviroment worth it? At San Diego, i know Structural Engineering is hard but it’s manageable comapared to Berkeley. So my question is, what are your persspectivez about this? Any help would be appreciated!
If you were accepted into both of their programs, you can do the work. Don’t let that sway you. It will not be easy at either place, I guarantee that.
Civil engineering and UCSD’s structural engineering have some overlap in content, but also some non-overlapping areas. Depending on your post-graduation goals, one or the other may be better suited as preparation.
You got into Berkeley: odds are very good you won’t fail out of Berkeley. That said, focus less on rankings and more on the program and vibe. Fit is important. Feeling good about where you live/study is important, too. If San Diego speaks to you louder pick UCSD and don’t look back.
