UC Berkeley vs UT Austin vs UM Ann Arbor

Major: Computer Science/Computer Engineering or Business?

I know each one of these schools has top 10 computer science and engineering programs in addition to top 10 business programs. I'm still not sure about going the business route or sticking with CS or CE.

Michigan is considerably stronger in business then your other two options, not sure about CS/CE.

At the undergraduate level, the difference in quality of CE/CS programs will not vary that much betwen those three universities, although Cal’s ties/proximity to Silicon Valley offers obvious advantages.

As far as Business programs are concerned, Haas and Ross are a hair better than McCombs, but again, the difference is negligible.

When it comes to three top universities such as this, I think it really boils down to personal preference and cost of attendance.

For what its worth, D’s decision came down to Mich LSA Honors, or UT Plan 2. She chose Mich. and absolutely LOVES it (Freshmen this year). That’s not to say she wouldn’t have been happy at Texas, but she is really glad she chose UM.

DS was instate for UT Austin and was offered a close to full ride aid/scholarships. Although he liked both UTA and UMich, he chose UMich and loves it.

For CS Berkeley is stronger due to its proximity to Silicon Valley – many start-ups there were pioneered by Berkeley grads. For Business, Haas and Ross are about equal.

I would go for Michigan if I’m in-state. I thought Michigan’s student body is a bit more interesting than Berkeley’s. This is just a personal opinion, however.

Michigan is ranked 14 in the World. Michigan > Berkeley > UT Austin.

Ann Arbor was also recently ranked the smartest city in the World, even above Cambridge.

UT isn’t a top 10 undergrad engineering school anymore. UC Berkeley and Umich are.

They’re all good at business.

Michigan is the Number one choice if money isn’t an issue.

^
Michigan is no better than Berkeley; they’re about the same.
Ann Arbor has more Bachelor degrees (65% of the population or something), but that doesnt make it “smartest city” in the world. What does that even mean anyway?
