i want to major in chemistry and then go into medicine. someone was telling me that if i go to berkeley for undergrad, it would be extremely difficult to get into medical school. is this true? does anyone have any suggestions for me? thanks.

I suppose it depends on how you define 'extremely difficult'. Here's the data. You can make that determination for yourself.

thanks. ok so basically it heavily depends on your gpa and mcats. and in berkeley wouldnt such a high gpa be very difficult to get?

That is true - it certainly is no walk in the park to get the high GPA you need to be competitive for med-school at Berkeley.

Also keep in mind that the med-schools do not compensate you for attending a difficult school like Berkeley. The average GPA of admitted Berkeley premeds at a particular med-school is basically the same as teh average GPA of all premeds admitted at that med-school. Basically, med-schools don't really care that certain schools are more difficult than others. They just want to see high grades, and don't care where or how you get them, as long as you have them.
