(retracted...found out my answer already hhaha)

Wow, nicely written argument.

I think UCI has a free bus system too though

I'm probably a bit biased towards Irvine since I know a lot of people here and many of my friends are either going to UCI or going to IVC (Irvine Valley College) so I guess my social life wouldn't die. But I could see how lonely it could possibly get for someone not from the area.

But uh first UCI has to accept me (22 days and counting) or else I'll see you at Davis, lol.

GoAgs, once again, WOW.. ahaha.. GOO AGGIES!!!

Rejected

3.5, 1260, 550, 600, 610

GO AGGS! what the heck is an aggie any way?

GoAgs!, you're friggin crazy man. You're posts are hella uplifting. I might be going to Davis this fall just because of you.

Good job with that marketing dude, it's kicking ass(atleast mine).

[EDIT]One question tho, what's the Indian(as in from the subcontinent) scene there like?

There definetely is an Indian culture representing at UC-Davis..just the other day I was playing pingpong at the ARC with my friends when I saw a group of Indians dancing in Bhangra fashion. I happened to know what Bhangra was because my high school always had that during the diversity assembly. The Indians participating in the Bhangra were very courteous and polite to me, informing me further of Bhangra origins and upcoming competitions. In addition, all the Indian people I have met are very open-minded and relaxed, completely different from the Indian overachievers at my high school.

-I'd agree with gunrox, just the last day i was heading up to my dorm and thier were hella indians having some community barbque on our outdoor grills.
So the Indian community is at least visiable.
- What is an Aggie??? haha... a very valid question
The common misconception is that an Aggie is some type of horse. Davis started out way back in 1905 as the the California Farm School. They were subsquently called the farmers, when UC Davis actually transformed into the UC it is today in the 50s...the adminstration motioned to change the name from the farmers to the Aggies...as it sounded more college like. An Aggie is basically a farmer, but it essentialy means if your a Davis student you are an Aggie. The Mustang is our official mascot, in the 70s students voted for the cow to be our mascot, but that was vetoed by administation....ahh oo well...the mustang is classic and ends the oddball mascot UC trend (Slugs and Anteaters) So we are the Ags, it represents who we are at Davis and harkens back to our founding years as a college. A number of other colleges our known as the Ags, most notably Texas A&M...but we know we're the #1 Ags because california is the #1 Ag state and we're the Cal Aggies...boo yea texas.

-Just a randomn note "Aggie Fight" is the only UC with an original FIGHT SONG. Man, we had fun teasing the Irvine kids with thier lame rip off of the UCLA fight song...instead of U-C-L-A...UCLA.. FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! at the end....it was U-C-I-ZOT...UCI-ZOT...FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!...zot??? IT''s a spell out, ZOT makes no sense in that context!!( Zot is the supposed war cry of an eater)...man...sooo whenever "the pep band" at Irvine played thier fight song all us Aggie fans would drown out the CIA by yelling the UCLA ending, then singin a rowsing rendition of Aggie Fight...haah the band and the Irvine students at the game were speechless and visibly p'od...good times...

The students at Cornell's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences have been called Aggies since the University started. I wouldn't be surprised if most land grant schools have Aggie in their vocabulary.

Can any of the Davis students comment on what happens with financial aid over the years? Do some of the grants get replaced with larger loans as happens at some other schools?

But(about the Indians) when I looked up the Indian Student Association at Davis they were all a bunch of old, ugly, probably grad student Indians.

Approximately how large is the Indian population, would you say, and are they all, or mostly, grad students? I want to be around Indians my age, not just Indians in general, you know?

Thanks...

JESUS CHRIST! WOULD U CALL IT QUITS WITH THE |)Amn INDIANS ALREADY?!? its really irritating, who cares what race or ethnicity they are, as long as they are cool people and you can get along with them. FYI: THE MAJORITY OF UCD IS COMPOSED OF CAUCASIONS AND ASIANS.

[EDIT]Eh, Mr. B's right, got a little out of hand.

polisciguy, you have no idea about the basis for my concerns, so don't call them out. Also, you have no idea about how infuriating your post is, so watch what you say next time.

poliscguy - some people only date within their religion, some people get comfort from sitting and talking with people they share a culture with. There can be lots of valid reasons for a person wanting to know if there will be something familiar to him or her when they go to school. These are not unusual questions to ask.

Megathunder, you didn't impress anybody with your response.

Just drove over to the campus and noticed "Raja Indian Cuisine (530 753-9664) They might be able to answer some of your questions Megathunder. They are located at 805 Second street 30 seconds from campus.

yah i did get a lil out of hand, sorry dude.

i didn't know there were a lot of indians in Davis. I am Indian and I will be going there, and doesn't really matter but good to know.

Davis has some beautiful aspect to its campus, although some buildings look like they could use a little refurbishing and are reminiscent of a not so glorious architectural style from the 60s. It has several open quad type areas and student centers to mull around in.

One aspect of the campus that I think is great is its proximity to the town of Davis. Not a drive down the hill or a bus ride to town but a short walk off campus puts you in with a world of resturants, book stores etc.
It is a wide campus and a bike would be a useful tool. I would make sure it had mud fenders at least in the back.
