@srafiq I called originally to see why I got waitlisted and I was able to find an answer.
3.8 GPA, rejected. Biology major. Tough school.
got my rejection. not surprised, don’t have the foreign language courses or a g.p.a. above 3.3. Had every course for the international relations major but i know my grades played a large role in their decision. Attending sac state, more opportunities and less debt.
@OhWhatsHerName thanks for letting me know! i’ll call tomorrow
Hi there! I ran into this thread since I was trying to find info about waitlists for a friend. I’m currently a senior and my major is Cog Sci (planning to double major if time allows it). I was a transfer student last year (2017). I would not rely on the gpa they post there for acceptance. After taking courses and knowing the major, those are the average gpa once you’re IN the major and have taken a few or a lot of courses at UC Davis. I had a 3.9 gpa as an incoming cog sci major when I was a transfer student, so I think that gpa is not about the gpa acceptance. It is the minimum to be considered I believe. For ex, in grad programs it can say “3.0 gpa minimum” but it’s clear that you do not aim for the minimum gpa since it is known that grad school programs are competitive and a 3.7 is the usually admitted gpa with some research background. This is just an example. As a current student, it is not true that the major is not impacted. It is becoming a popular major on campus where previous psych or other biological sciences are declaring cog sci as their major. I know for sure it is hard to get into my classes because there are so MANY students who take the classes I need and it is my major… I think it’s because cog sci is an interdisciplinary field and other majors get curious / want to take the intro course to know about it. I remember being waitlisted to get into an intro course because it was so packed. So this is a real view of how the major is and what is going on. I hope it helps a bit since my friend was also relying on the minimum gpa posted. We both were until I realized that the gpa there is probably the minimum gpa for those who are already taking courses and have been exposed to the brutal quarter lol. It could be the gpa to be considered, but the popluarity of UC’s seem to always increase every year and more students apply. It becomes competitive to be admitted. I think we had the highest applicants for this class… I saw it on their site. I know a few freshmen 4.0 gpa cog sci as well, so I guess it is now quite competitive due to its popularity? This is my own student experience since I am currently attending and experiencing it as an undegraduate. You should def call them. I think they need to update their info if the admission expectation is higher… I guess the school was not expecting SIR’s from 4.0 kiddos. I got in UC Berkeley as well, but I chose UC Davis. I cannot imagine how many stories are similar to mine and I am only one of those in the major. The major is def not easy and I’m still adjusting. I’m just a semester learner, but I love it here. Sorry for the long detailed reply.
I called admissions today, they said that they weren’t able to accept as many people off the waitlist due to a limited number of space (they were only able to pull off about a hundred, so congratulations to the ones who made it! You guys were very lucky), so that was the main reason why they couldn’t accept us.
I got denied off the waitlist for economics, appealed and got accepted off appeal. I had a 3.4 GPA and deans honors my sophomore year. I did have an interesting story about some family issues which probably boosted my chances. Have until July 13 to SIR, and will be accepting admission.
Also forgot mention I’m transferring from UCSC.
When did you submit your appeal? @gt26gt
6/26/18, the day after I initially got rejected. @empressu
