An international student and a prospective mech engineering major here.

As the May.1 deadline's approaching, I feel like I really can use some input!

Right now UC Davis will cost me 37k/yr, WPI 30k/yr and Alabama around 10k - 15k/yr (I received a free tuition scholarship at U of A, so I only need to pay for the bits and bobs - housing, meal plan, transportation etc - if I choose to go there)

Any input will be greatly appreciated! Many thanks!

You will get a good education at all of these universities. Assuming that you can afford all 3 choices, you need to decide which is the best fit for you. WPI is vastly different from the other two. WPI is a small engineering / STEM school whereas UCD and Bama have engineering schools within a larger university. WPI has about 5,000 students whereas both UCD and Bama have more than 30,000 students. Being in the Northeast, Worcester is cold and snowy in the winter and hot and humid in the summer. The winter weather is much more appealing at UCD and Bama. WPI is an excellent school with many very happy students and good job / grad school placement. I would think that depending on what type of a university experience you are looking for it would be easy to rule WPI in or out. I don’t know enough about UCD or Bama to help you differentiate between them. Good luck making your decision!

i dont know anything about alabama. Wpi is a very good engineering school with small class sizes. UC davis, academically speaking, is the better school because of rankings. However, davis has very big class sizes and it is hard to register for the classes you want to take because there are so many students. So, it is not uncommon to see ppl graduate in five years becasue of that. but uc davis is a great school and wpi is a great school as well
