Ok, so after further review, I've realized that I am most likely not getting into UCSB. I have a ton of W's, and am missing 4 of the 7 pre-reqs for my major. The best part of my application - my essay - isn't even taken into consideration for admission. :(

Why can't the decisions just come out already? The suspense is killing me...:(

Coast, your load of W's and lack of prerequisites won't help you at all. You should go on and finish your major-prep to increase your chanes for the following year!

Well, the good news is that I also applied to the University of San Diego; i'm fairly certain I'll be accepted there. However, it would definately be kind of a drag to pay double the fee for a school that's of a lesser caliber than the UC's.

I could always spend another year at my JC and finish up my TAP with UCLA.

Sigh. I don't know. Everything is just such a drag right now.

THe W's won't help but it's the lack of Pre-Req's that might end up really hurting you. I recall a few people on here last year who got denied with high GPA's (some were 3.7-3.8 area) because they were missing to many pre-reqs.

My susgestion to you Coast is either take a another year at a CC, or take the University of San Diego acceptence.

UCSB requires 8 classes for its political science Pre-Req's, while UCSD only requires 3. I'll have all 3 done for UCSD, as well as being IGETC certified. I'm thinking I'll have a better chance at UCSD than UCSB. Anyway, we'll have to see I guess. :/

I think UCSB will take u as long as u have igetc.

out of curiousity, why didn't u finish ur prereqs after being at cc for 3 years? Did u switch majors?

BTW, i am guilty of that too. I am missing physics. Instead of physics i decided to take anatomy, microbio, and ochem. NOne of those classes are required for my major.

To Santa Barbara!??! Are you sure there wasn't another reason for them being rejected? A 3.7 or a 3.8 is overqualified for Santa Barbara.

-Complete math and English by fall
-Complete units requirement by spring
-2.80 GPA or better

-Other eligible students may also be admitted (B grades in pre-requisites for English and/or math in spring)
-Major prep completed for selective majors"

And I just took a look, and you'll be relieved to hear Coast that they do not screen for major prerequisite completion for any Letters and Science majors! They screen biological sciences majors, creative studies, computer science and engineering.

Wow, that's awesome Gabe! However, are you sure that info isn't for their Transfer Agreement though?

High schoolda: Yeah, I switched majors. I was a philosophy major for my 1st year, and then decided to switch to poli sci after the 2004 elections. lol.

Their transfer agreement is revealing when it comes to their process. They only allow you to use the transfer agreement for majors they don't pre-screen for prerequisites. That doesn't mean they pre-screen for prerequisites if you don't partake in the program. Call their admissions office on Monday, and they will verify.

"Which majors screen for major preparation in the selection process?"

UCSB

Applicants in engineering, computer science and the biological sciences are screened for at least partial completion of major preparation coursework. To be competitive in the admissions process, students wishing to study engineering and computer science must also complete two or three courses in humanities and the social sciences.

"Students are selected primarily on the basis of overall academic achievement and completion of the course pattern required for upper division transfer."

Just as highschoolda said: IGETC. GPA and IGETC.

I applied to UCSB for the winter quarter 2006. I was accepted as a history major and i was missing like 3 or 4 prereqs. i had a 3.43 when i applied for that. there is hope coast.

I think it's more than Hope. More like a guarantee. U proly can appeal if they don't accept u. I never really seen anyone rejected from SB that has above a 3.0
