UC Irvine Fall 2015 Transfer Thread

im predicting the 16th

17th would be just perfect

Hey guys,

So it seems the UCI website specifically for the 2015 Regents’ Scholar is up. They already put information about Transfer Regents’ Scholar Class of 2017, and they state, “Our Transfer Regents’ Scholars are accomplished and diverse.” I’m not sure whether this means that they’re finished with deciding who got Regents’ and whether they’ve already notified them, but it’s making me really sad lol :< So I emailed the scholarship office and asked them whether or not they are finished sending out Regents’ notifications to transfer students. I’ll update you guys once they give me an answer!

I’m just really sad because I really wanted the Regents’ Scholarship, but if it doesn’t work out then I guess that’s just how it is.

Any other Engineering/Computer Science applicants get this e-mail today?

"Dear Student,

The 2015-16 UC Irvine John Ichiro Yasuda Memorial Scholarship is now available to apply. The John Ichiro Yasuda Memorial Scholarship will provide one scholarship in the amount of $1,500 for the 2015-16 year to an outstanding Junior student. The scholarship is renewable for a second year during the student’s senior year. The scholarship is contingent on the student being admitted and attending UCI in the Fall of 2015. I have attached the application to this email. The application deadline is May 4, 2015. Students may apply even if you have not heard from the Admission Office regarding your status."

@liveinthelbc‌ i got that email a month ago and im Aerospace Engineering. Maybe its a good sign? I haven’t gotten a decision yet tho.

@ShuttlepilotND‌ Oh, interesting. I just got it this morning, so maybe they are sending it out to applicants when their decision has been made?
It’s a nice thought at least. Haha.

I’m also a Biomedical Engineering major.

Comp Sci major, just got that email this morning as well.

Haven’t got that email. Comp Sci major too

hi guys! my major is public health policy and was hoping if I’d get a feedback of your opinions.
my gpa when I applied was a 3.45, however, I took my hardest classes last spring which dropped my gpa to a 3.2. Based on my major and GPA? what do you guys think?

UCI is my dream school and has always been the school for me for 10 years.

@rmalani‌ I do not know much about the major public health policy but it seems like you might be ok. I have a cumulative 3.08, and I received a message from an admissions counselor asking if I want to choose another major or an alt. major. Being that the school of engineering has a cum 3.1 GPA requirement. I too had my hardest semester last semester which dropped me from a 3.18 to 3.08. Right below the cut off. It seems like they really want me being that they asked for a supplemental essay from me then a week later requesting I change my major. So with your 3.2, I’d say that if you come across as a determined, dedicated student, they will want you! Good luck to you @rmalani‌! Hope to see you next fall.

I would love some insight from an experienced member. I have a huge predicament. I am a 28 year old student, I had an absolutely horrible first 6 years of college. Went back to school 3 years ago with renewed passion and determination. Brought GPA circa 2.3 to 3.3 at one point. Once I started taking phyics ochem and other challenging courses I crumbled back down to a 3.08. I’ve since adjusted my study habits and am having my best semester since first returning. I received a message from an admissions counselor tonight saying:

Dear Jason,

Would you like to select an alternate major? Your not
eligible for Biomed Engineering because you have a 3.08
cumulative gpa and you need at least a 3.10 cumulative GPA
to be eligible.

Please review our list of majors and their major prerequisites.

http://www.admissions.uci.edu/applicants/transfer_preparation.html
Please let me know as soon as possible if you would like to
select another major or an alternate major.

Does my current semester ultimately count towards my cumulative gpa? If the semester were to end now I would have a 3.53 for the semester and an overall 3.17 bringing me above the 3.1 cutoff for the school of engineering. I do a lot for my school and community through MESA, the engineering club, student government, and volunteering. Irvine is my top choice and it seems like they really want me. If you have any insight please let me know or message me. Thank you for reading this rather long post and GLTYA!!!

-Jason

^Call them.

I am, was super anxious when I got the email last night ^^

I’m just floored that they emailed you that option. I’ve never heard of this but I can guarantee most do not get an email suggesting they are not eligible for their chosen major and offered an option to choose another. This is bananas to me and if I were you, I’d pick another major quickly and roll with it.

Email back about the GPA raise.

Your GPA through Winter is calculated (usually just Fall, depending on timing), not Spring. Spring is calculated after you’ve been accepted. Even if you email them, they can’t consider a gpa that is theoretically higher now, I mean, Spring isn’t even over yet, so you have no way of guaranteeing that to them. Can you imagine if they allowed us all to give them a “possible” gpa? Think about it.

Choose another major.

@jasonb511 Hi Jason, yes the grades from Spring 2015 ultimately count towards your GPA. But if you’re asking if they consider them for admission purposes, from what I’m aware they only considers grades up until the end of Fall 2014 because decisions are made before Spring semester is over.

This might be a stretch, but maybe it’s possible that you could message them back and ask if it’s possible for them to accept you into your desired major under the condition that you raise your GPA by end of Spring semester. If not you can always select an alt major. The admission counselors are pretty good at responding back via the message center. Good luck!

Woops. Last two posts are right. I thought you meant you had finished classes that haven’t been reported yet. You should consider a different major.

Thank you all so much for your inputs! I still have no idea what I’m going to do. But I need to do it quick.
