UC January Update

i believe that winter may be counted for those on quarter system. Imagine this: there are students on quarter systems who would have completed only 50 units by fall.and the rest of 40 units are completed during winter and spring quarter. will Uc disregard these 40 units?of course, no

So it is true to say that uc only look till fall quarter grades if the students have many units.

If uc only look till fall grade, why the decision would come out on April 3o? do they scrutinize your fall quarter grade for few months?

but certainly, they will only count till fall term for the one on semester system.

Thanks

Muq1, they certainly consider the classes you take in the winter or spring quarters (or spring semester). We are talking about GRADES.

With that said, I have only received confirmation that they normally don't look at winter intersession grades, so I can't say how they handle the winter quarter.

And there are some students who are on the semester system who end up taking a ridiculous amount of units (such as 20) during the spring semester with grades that won't be factored in.

hahaha.hey i am the one who would have completed 50 units by next week ...haha....so i am going to be ridiculous, like you said. 20 for winter, 20 for spring.that would be 90 units.i hope they consider winter grade too to support my candidacy...

I am really happy that I am going to community college and turn down Dartmouth and NYU . I can skip one year.wohooo

Uc Bekeley is more famous :)

I think not considering the winter grades can work too if you have like a 4.0 without them. And I hope you are kidding about wanting to go to Berkeley just because it's more famous than those schools.

I brought up the same question coming from De Anza College. The thing is, our winter quarter starts once we come back on January 11th and ends on March 31, which I think is way too late for them to take into consideration I think. I imagine other CCC's on the quarter system follow relatively the same schedule. What I'm doing is just planning out the rest of the year and putting the classes as planned, continuing to take around 20 units in order to look competitive, and also because I would enjoy learning without the pressure of having to be perfect. Then all I have to do is follow through and enjoy the rest of the year.

Yeah--if it ends March 31 that is way too late. That sounds like an intelligent plan though.

Santa Monica College's winter session ends in early February. Does that mean our grades will be counted?

That is a winter intersession; the answer is "not normally."

It seems like they want you to update by the end of January. It's possible that if you put those classes as "in progress" and you are borderline they may ask you for those grades.

You might get a call from some of the UC's in March. I had both UCSB and I believe it as UCI call me and ask how my classes were going, before I got offered admissions.

Hm...and you weren't borderline. Were you taking prereqs or classes necessary for IGETC?

They just asked how your classes were going? And you said "fine"? Anything else?

No I was not really boredline at all, especially for UCSB and UCI, those were saftey schools for me. They just asked what my grades were in paticular courses for IGETC... It was kind of interesting, abuot 15 minutes after I talked to the lady from UCSB, I got an email telling me I had been admitted. I think they were just checking to make sure that I was going to pass everything.

Yeah--so you had IGETC requirements that you were taking in the spring--that makes sense. I'm hoping the fact I have IGETC completed already will be a good thing for me. Thanks for providing us with your experience!

Yeah, I'm in the same posistion as you are, Gabe. I have one last humanity/arts class and one honors class left. I'm going to kill two birds with one stone by taking honors Greek Philosophy in the spring.

I think you having IGETC completed already should help you at least slightly. Others out there will still try to complete their math/english requirements while promising to finish their prereqs.

Yeah--I wish my school had Greek Philosophy LET ALONE HONORS Greek Philosophy! I have to drive over an hour to reach my ancient phil class. That will be a great class dude; enjoy it.

I have more than is necessary for IGETC too; that goes along with finishing with around 80 credits completed.

That's actually really impressive you guys already have IGETC finshed, I don't know of anybody around here last year who already had it done. I still had 3 or 4 classes I was taking towards it in the Spring of last year.

Yeah, well, this is my third year at my ccc. I was set to transfer last year, but I wasn't going in the right direction (wrong major, wrong school)...so here I am. I wasn't working with IGETC before, but when I switched to it I already had most of it done.

Wow, now that you put it that way, Gabe, I'll appreciate the class more.

We actually have a good variety of Phil classes. We have:
Phil 5 - Critical Thinking and Composistion. [it can be used to fulfill 2nd semester of college English]
Phil 6 - Logic in Practice
Phil 9 - Symbolic Logic I
Phil 12 - History of Greek Philosophy
Phil 14 - History of Modern European Philosophy
Phil 19 - Contemporary Problems in Bioethics
Phil 20 - Ethics
Phil 30 - Asian Philosophy
Phil 33 - Survey of World Religions
Phil 40 - Intro to the Philosophy of Art
Phil 42 - Philosophy and Cinema

Yeah, I was looking at the selection the other day for Pierce. Every school should have a history series (ancient, modern).

No one can go wrong with College of the Canyons.
