I found the Count Me In email in my son’s junk folder. Thanks God I looked there. Good luck to everyone
Gumbymom, do you know how students are selected for referral? My son was eligible for the statewide path (there was a designation on his UC application), but didn’t receive an email. Is it based on major? Other factors?
@rurjuror: Last year, 959 students were referred and 606 admitted. The referrals are based on major and space available. The impacted majors such as Engineering usually have no spots available.
This is from the UCM website:
Some majors, such as Biological Sciences, Computer Science and Engineering, and Undeclared in a particular school, are not available as a part of the Count Me In offer.
Also did you check the junk mail/spam/trash just to make sure he did not receive the email and accidentally missed it?
He checked his junk/spam/trash and didn’t receive an email. He applied to six UCs, three as a CS major and three as a math major, and was waitlisted at UCSD as a math major and UCSC as a CS major. There must be other criteria (or random selection) in play if he was otherwise eligible. He’s appealed (at the suggestion of the admissions office), but I’m not hopeful.
@rurjuror: So UCM’s admissions said to appeal the referral? Only 131 of the 606 admitted students ended up enrolling so you would think that admissions would just let any student interested in attending to apply through the Count me in program.
The admissions office suggested that he submit an appeal for late application, not Count Me In. Though he did reference the Count Me In program and his eligibility in his appeal essay.
After a lot of back and forth with the admissions office, we found out that he was offered a spot in the Count Me In program. For whatever reason, he didn’t get the email, but a second email was sent, and he accepted the invitation. So relieved!
@rurjuror: Great news!!! Best of luck to your son.
@intricuit @rurjuror @OnPinsAndNeedles Congrats! UC Merced is an underrated, amazing school. Had our daughter not gotten a surprise admission to UCSB, she’d be gladly attending Merced next Fall. She loved the campus, the dorms, the people…and so did we. We visited the campus multiple times with her and each and every time we found new stuff to like.
@Gumbymom could you share where you got the Count Me In admitted vs enrolled stats from? is this from last year?
Thx
@ucmhereicome: The referral data was posted on a graph in late January for 2018 but the link I have no longer works. It seems UCM redesigned their website but I did record the statistical data. I have tried looking for the data on UCM’s website. It was originally listed under Institutional analysis under Freshman admissions which I can longer find.
Can you send me the link?
Hey everyone, I applied as a spring 2020 freshmen applicant. I was admitted to my major of choice, Computer Science and Engineering. I was wondering when they will send out their financial aid package? I just got notified today of my admission.
